The first, and only, time I read this book, it was a few months before the release of the final book of the series. I hadn’t read many books at time and there were books that I liked that, were I to read them now, I would hate.

I loved the series at the time but since I’ve seen the series get so much shit, I started to question whether the series was actually good. This reread of the series is to answer that question.

I’m very relieved to say that I did like the book; I think it would have made me very said if I hadn’t liked it.

The really like the world that Cassandra Clare has created. It’s interesting and fast paced and very much alive. I also like her characters, especially Jace (I tried to look for reasons why some people hate him. Didn’t find any).

The book is well written for the most part and the story was good. If this were my first read, I’d be very curious about what would happen next.

Things that I didn’t like:

1. The conversations were fun but sometimes they were inter-spaced with too many descriptions, and it ruined the flow. They were a bit awkward toward the beginning of the book.

2. The other characters need a bit of work and so does Clary. She’s very childish in th book.

3. The chapter titled “The Werewolf’s Tale” was a very bad choice. It was written in a bad way and was a huge blow to the book.

4. The world building involved information dumping. There was lot to be told and it wasn’t told in the best way.

Overall, I liked this book about as much as I thought I would. If you haven’t already read it, you should give it a shot.

Reading this book now that I’m older is so much stranger, it really reminds me of a court of thorns and roses a lot, however the familiarity is reall comforting
