I enjoyed getting more of Marcus’s backstory and seeing familiar faces from the All Souls series, but the pacing felt uneven and the shifting timelines sometimes pulled me out of the story. While there were moments of depth and intrigue, it didn’t capture the same magic as the original trilogy. Still, a nice addition for fans who want to spend more time in this world.

Much better on the second read. The first time I really only cared about the present and skimmed the sections about the past. This time I really appreciated the past and the present was less interesting.

1/5🌶️ I feel like the pacing of this book was a little weird. It felt good in the beginning but then dragged on in the middle, but at the end it was so fast. Now the book was still good, I like that we got backstory on Marcus and what he went through as a new vampire while simultaneously seeing what Phoebe was going through. I wasn’t expecting to get other POVs but I was happy we still got Diana’s to weave the two story lines together. I wish we could have seen more of Marcus and Phoebes life together as vampires besides the last 5 or so chapters, but hopefully we see more in the next book. I am exited that we will be getting a little time jump (5 years) just like we did in this one (2 years). On to the last book!

I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the world of matthew and diane again. While not as engrossing as the discovery trilogy it was like revisiting family you haven't seen for a while. Worth a read if you enjoyed the trilogy.

Time's Convert is a novel that takes place in the same world as Deborah Hakness's All Souls trilogy (think A Discovery of Witches) but is still outside of this series as it follows the character Marcus McNeil rather than Diana and Matthew. However, keep in mind that while it's a standalone book, you would be incredibly confused if you haven't read the All Souls trilogy first. The book bounces back and forth between the present, where Marcus's human mate is undergoing her vampiric transformation so that they can be together eternally, as well as Marcus's past during America's Revolutionary War as he reflects on his rebirth.
I appreciate getting a wider glimpse into this world and the chance to get to know more marginal characters from the All Souls trilogy on a deeper level, but, as is the case with most situations like these - I still like the original trilogy better. Matthew and Diana's story is more full and complex as they have much more to overcome both together and on a personal level. But again, this novel explores areas that were glossed over in the series, such as how a vampire is created, which more fully rounds out this world.
