I enjoyed Christa’s snarky asides and breaking of the 4th wall. The entertaining narration style was why I never considered DNFing. But I feel like I lost the thread in some places regarding the characters’ feelings. I don’t think it was believable how the family forgave the dad so quickly for pretending to be dead in order to abandon them. However, my biggest issue was the dialogue between the love interests, especially the text messages. I found it very unrealistic and cringey.

Pleasant enough, but probably not one I’ll remember. A Steve Irwin type figure thought to be dead returns after more than two decades? This novel had potential, but rather than spending time in the family drama of Jasper’s three daughters and ex-wife responding to his return, there was a lot of focus on “canoodling” (a word really used in this book!). Also, I didn’t buy that Christa was an introverted loner coming “out of her shell.” I wanted to love this, but it didn’t quite have the depth I was hoping for.
