The 2nd book was so much better than the 1st! Much more action! :)

This is my 3rd (at least) reread over the past 15 years or so and I love it every time. This whole series will always be one of my all time favorites. and it only gets better in the 4 books after this one
"Real life in clandestine services isn't cat and mouse—it's cat and cat."
3.5 stars. the extra .5 is for zach and cammie's banter. i don't have many things to say other than this book was painfully slow and not much really happened?? except maybe at the beginning when cammie and her friends found out about the boys' situation and towards the literal end when something actually happened. thank god it didn't drag out to be more when nothing happened. i hope the next book in the series will be better.
I DONT KNOW THIS IS JUST SO AMAZING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY I CANT WAIT TO READ THE NEXT BOOK

YOU ALREADY KNOW. this is a deep deep reread for me. I've probably read this book a million, quadrillion times. I love everything and anything about this book. this book is the second in the Gallagher girls series. these books were my love when I was in middle schools. these books are the reason I love everything spy-worthy/ anything where the location is a private schools. this book is the start of literally everything. the beginning of the iconic relationship with cammie and Zach. this book has cammie finally move on from josh. we got to see more covet ops and the iconic mission to Washington DC, to the mall, (I remember the location from my 5th grade trip to the nation's capital.). we got to witness the dance and Zach calling her "Gallagher girls." Zach was the boy of our dreams. like he was so smart, sweet, and just everything we want in a male spy. I love this so much. this book is the perfect book that let's you know where the series is going (low-key) and I have so much praise for this book. it's my favorite book in the series. I love this.

Another great book in the series, with added intrigue. I do feel like I’ve been left with more questions than answers though!
The Gallagher Girls: Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy by Ally Carter is hands down the best spy-romance book I’ve ever read so far. If you’ve read the first book of the Gallagher Girls series, you’d know that Cammie was in love with a boy, Josh, but at the end they broke up and he got brainwashed, not entirely though. Book one and two of this series has more of a touch of romance than spying because the details help build up on the upcoming books. In this book another spy school, the Blackthorne Institute for Boys, is spending the semester at the Gallagher Academy. Cammie faces another mission even more dangerous than before. She is on a mission in Washington D.C, and meets this boy who she thinks was flirting with her. He noticed a lot of things about her that Josh didn’t notice, like how she fidgets a lot, how she’s not wearing a watch, and walks really fast. Cammie was about to leave to meet up with her teacher, when suddenly the boy suggested that he goes with her. He had suggested that because it was dark out, but she wouldn’t budge on the idea until finally she realized she had to or she’d blow her cover. The boy showed her up a lot and she was annoyed about it. The reason behind that is he’s also a spy, a Blackthorne spy. Soon, fourteen of the boys from the Blackthorne Institute move into the Gallagher Academy. Cammie is partnered up with Zach, the boy who showed her up. Zach is described as mysterious, strong, handsome, smart, and etc. He has dark hair and is tall with broad shoulders. Zach teases Cammie a lot, but at the same time he’s actually protecting her, but she doesn’t realize it until the end. One evening, Madame Dabney had held a cumulative examination and they were expected to dance. Everyone was expected to act as a different character, Cammie couldn’t be herself and say no when Zach asked to dance. Zach and Cammie were dancing, right after Zach had dipped, winked, and spun her, there was a clothing emergency, and she had to leave. She had gone to a corridor, there she was, alone. Then Zach appears looking for her. At that moment Cammie had realized that Zach knew everything about her. He knew where her favorite passageways were, he knew she was a pavement artist, he knew where she sat in class, what she ate in the Grand Hall, and who her best friends were. He knew her. Then the lights went out and a siren went on, it was code black, security protocol. Cammie grabbed Zach and ran towards the Grand Hall, but by the time people had found her, Zach was gone. After this everything is a mystery, Cammie and her friends are trying to find who started this threat. They suspected the Blackthorne boys, so they planted bugs into their rooms. It was a matter of time before Zach had showed Cammie up again. On a date with Cammie he had given back one of the bugs to show he was onto them, but he didn’t remove all the bugs. Later Zach and Cammie are off on another mission, Zach tried to kiss her, but DeeDee shows up with Josh. Josh still has feelings for Cammie, and he had also seen what just happened between them. Cammie starts to suspect the man behind them who had mysteriously reversed his jacket, and tells Zach through spy-slang. She leaves with DeeDee to the bathroom but runs into Bex and they go back to the school. They are closer than ever to finding out who the threat is, and all Cammie can do is trust Zach. Everything comes together at the end, Zach was protecting Cammie all along. Overall I thought the book was intriguing and compelling. Each chapter kept luring me into the next and I couldn’t stop reading. On a scale from 1-10 this book definitely broke my scale. I’m excited for the next book, and what spying they’re going to do in the next book. I would absolutely recommend this book to girls who like spy series because this and the first book has gotten me heads over heels for more.
