I like Koontz but his series and on a low note. Like Odd Thomas, Frankenstein starts out fun and quirky then evolves into a rant about the persecution of traditional midwestern values.

The last of Dean Koontz’ Frankenstein series has Deucalion and his allies battling manufactured replicants and a cloned Victor Helios (now Victor Immaculate) for the survival of a town in Montana. Some die, though few of the good guys. In short, much mayhem, some light grossness and horror (though nothing a twelve-year-old couldn’t handle), occasional potty mouth expressions, and eventual victory for the good guys. Not especially exciting or captivating.
Basically, there was nothing really new to justify another book. It was much wordier than needed. With good editing, the series could have been one or two books shorter, and the quality probably would have been significantly enhanced. There were moments of some mild excitement, but the heart and flow that characterized his earlier novels seems lacking in this one. It simply didn’t have the liveliness, the creativity, the wordsmithing of some of his previous novels. That is consistent with what I’ve seen in some of the other reviews of his recent work. I don't think I would have read it if I hadn't been sick and in bed. Or...maybe I’ve simply moved on in my reading interests.

Now I am a massive Dean Koontz have been for many years. I have purchased and read all his books several times over. So you can imagine how hard it is for me to say that this book is a pile of rubbish.
The book follows his Frankenstein theme through to its conclusion. Firstly thank god this is the end of this series and Koontz has flogged it to death. Like the Odd Thomas books which have also been used repeatedly this series is two books too many.
I ask myself has my favourite author run out of characters or is he just taking the make a quick buck route. Whichever it is this is not good. I am left hoping that the next offer from this author is a return to form.

I loved the first couple of books in this series, but it goes downhill from there. Book 5, the final volume, regurgitates the Decaulion vs Victor battle, but with far less fanfare, while Carson and Michael are relegated to mere background players to an anti-climatic ending. There's a few great moments with Jocko. Overall, just an "ok" book.

Very good book. It's the end of this series. It was an excellent series. I would recommend it to all.

Much better than the 4th book "Lost Souls." I could tell Koontz had a lot to tell in this concluding story, so the writing was much tighter and a generally fast-paced novel. I would recommend this book for any Dean Koontz.

I think I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. It wasn't bad but it wrapped up too easily/quickly.
