Obviously a piece of English imperialist propaganda to inspire racists to travel the world to spread Christianity and "civilize" the "savages" of the world who are supposedly in dire need of salvation from cannibalism. According to Robinson Crusoe, everyone who isn't white is born to be a slave, and maybe just hasn't realized it yet.

Man gets stuck on island, becomes more self-sufficient, befriends a cannibal…. Some parts of this were so tedious but I’ll give it credit and say some parts were interesting too.

god this was dog shit i hate old books my lord

This is the worst book I ever read. I could not tell if Defoe meant this to be satire or not because the character of Crusoe is not only an unrepentant murder and colonist, he's also insufferable and an example of the kind of white man who continually "falls up," or what Crusoe conveniently calls "Providence." I hate him. I hate this book. And, I only read it so I can now read critiques of capitalism and white supremacy that use this as an example. This book should be completely forgotten.
