Listened to this. While I found it frustrating that we never found out what the mental illness is, I appreciated the journey into how mental illness can affect a person directly as well as how it can affect those around them.

Just wow. This was one of the best books I have read in a while. Mason presents a searingly profound story about mental health, family, friendship, marriage and love with such skill and style. The portrayal of mental illness is particularly and painfully honest - I have never read anything quite like it.

It was utterly and absolutely heartbreaking and painful at times, but at others it was hilarious. I read it in about five sittings and thought about it whenever I wasn’t reading it. Each time I picked it up, I sobbed copious tears but also laughed out loud.

I miss the characters already. They developed so subtly and thoroughly throughout the novel.

I am totally blown away.

Incredibly well written, really transports you into the narrator’s world. Heavy read, definitely needs to be followed by something light as your next book after this!

3.5 - Enjoyable! Like Bridget Jones but with fewer jokes and more mental illness.
