Two halves of a whole
I really wish I could meet all of the DMC in person as I flove this series. All the swoons and ear tugs for Griff and Heath. “This isn’t about sex or chemistry, only that when I’m kissing him, the world makes sense. When I’m kissing him, my heart feels full.” See?! Swoony swoons make my heart all a’flutter. If any two people are meant for each other, it’s them. Gah, I love how they know exactly what the other is thinking, how they have their own language, how they seamlessly—though oh so hotly—slid from friends to more, and how they perfectly balance each other. These two are everything I want in a best friends to lovers to forever love romance. I also appreciated Felix’s color and Poppy’s low key approach. When you add in the banter from the DMC, whether it’s cheering or leering their support, this low angst but high heat and full feels books is exactly what I needed to read.

February 2023. MM romance about a recently divorced bisexual guy who married young and his gay best friend of decades who has vowed to help him get back out there as his wingman and doesn’t do relationships. While both have been connected at the hip for years, neither have ever seen each other as a romantic or sexual interest, but find the thought crossing their minds as they are both single at once for the first time.
Second in a loose series (main characters from one book are side characters in the others, overlap in friend groups and live in the same town), The Divorced Men’s Club, it’s nice to listen to a fairly sweet queer romance series of relatively nice supportive adults in their late 30’s and 40’s finding love. There are some steamy scenes but it’s mostly romance and fairly wholesome humans.
This one did have some annoying elements that were fine as roadblocks to the relationship (main character and ex-wife have been separated for a while but have put off telling their son who is off at college, ex-wife announces she’s just suddenly bailing on the business they’ve run together for decades without almost any transition or chance to train or hire replacements) but there was just too much time on them. I wish that portion was trimmed a bit, I just didn’t need to hear that much about the ex-wife. I think the whole book could’ve been a bit shorter because that stuff got repetitive.
Overall though I liked the main characters a lot, especially their working together and finding ways to support one another’s strengths in the business to make it sustainable long-term. They had great chemistry and the relationship pacing worked well.
I liked the first one better but this one was still worth checking out. It’s on Kindle Unlimited and Scribd, I listened on Scribd.
This cover is the cover for the paperback edition, it was cuter than the digital cover.
“Platonic Rulebook” by Saxon James. Book 2 in The Divorced Men’s Club series.

It was fun to read the other side of the story after reading about Felix's take on his dad falling in love with "Uncle" Heath. Overall a little on the "book I read" side, but not much more.
Generally a friends to lovers isn't my jam. Mainly for the reasons that happened in this story. The back and forth of "ruining" the friendship.
While this did happen within the book it wasn't dragged out to make me want to dnf. It was over pretty quickly. And I get it. Moving a 20+ yr friendship over the line is stressful.
The other thing that got to me, is that REALLY there wasn't huge amounts of attraction/want/desire for those 2 decades. yeah they both admitted to having feelings, but nothing strong until it WAS. I don't know.
I borrowed the first book, but not sure if I'll read it.

Loved this story of friends to lovers! So gorgeous and lots of character development and figuring out what life looks like Griff and Heath.
Griff and his wife have finally split after waiting a year so as to not disrupt their son’s final year before college. When Heath tries to push him to get back out on the horse, they find themselves coming together instead. Though they try to push aside the feelings and Griff is worried about his ex and his son with how they would react to them being together.
They still can’t keep away from each other, their friendship is so strong that the jump to more isn’t difficult once they work through exterior problems.
Gorgeous story, lots of fun banter, a good dose of heat all came together for another fun book in this series!

As someone who has read and loved every book by this author, I am sorry to say this book just did not slap.
Platonic Rulebook by Saxon James ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was so excited for this book after seeing glimpses of Griff in Roommate Arrangement. He's just as flirty and funny as I remember but we also see a more vulnerable and insecure side to him too. He worries about his age and appearance and whether or not he can run his business without his ex-wife.
Luckily for him, his best friend Heath is always there to pick up the slack. He's such a good friend to Griff, always putting him first and going above and beyond his job role to help him out. Heath struggles to balance giving Griff everything he needs with being there to support his elderly mother after his fathers passing.
Felix was also so much fun and I loved seeing more of his background after reading his story - The Dating Disaster.
I love the best friends to lovers trope in general and the way this book utilises it is perfect. There are no years of pining from one of the MC's, both Griff and Heath fall for each other at the same time. This is a nice change compared to the dozens of books I've read with the same trope that focus around unrequited love and pining.
The epilogue was so sweet and rounded out their story nicely and overall the book was a fun, low angst read.

Story about Griff, divorcing his HS sweetheart, who happens to be a woman. They are waiting until their son goes off to college to tell him, but before they can, Griff realizes he's in love with his long-time best friend, Heath. Low angst, but the ex is kind of a bitch.
Not particularly, spicy 2/5 chilis on the spice meter

Ugh this book was so wholesome and just made my heart happy to read it. Griff and Heath were made for each other. They are each others person. Their friendship and relationship was just so beautiful and natural. To know somebody that way and have somebody know you the same is unmatched. To see how deeply they cared about one another and the other person happiness was so sweet. I loved being able to see how their relationship unfolded. Their chemistry, the flirting, the banter it was all too good. When Heath would get Griff flowers
