I don't know quite what to make of this book. The overall plot is signalled so not a surprise, and Eleanor is almost a caricature of an old maid / 50s throwback, but I liked the unfolding relation with Raymond, and with Sammy, and it was easy to read, so I didn't stop turning the pages.

I loved this book! I read it in one day on the beach in Thailand because I could not put it down. Great characters and story. 10/10.

It took me a minute to get into the book, but honestly her personality is so quirky and you KNOW there’s something there! I was definitely not expecting the ending and that’s a wonderful thing to be surprised by anymore! I love Eleanor and I can relate to her on some very scary but hilarious levels.

Boy this was tough to get through. If I hadn’t been listening on a road trip on audible and stuck I might not have made it- but by 3 hours I was invested and there was a slight hook of finding out what happened to the lead. The second half got much better. Deep, thoughtful book about unlocking trauma but hard to call it an enjoyable book in the end, at least for me. Though I’ll concur that it had an important message.

I’m definitely in the minority here but I had a hard time getting through this. I like the messages in this book somewhat but overall I found it quite boring and predictable.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveway in exchange for my honest review. It didn't grab me from the start because of the slow pace and the rudeness of Eleanor. But as more of her past is revealed, you get to know her and understand why she thinks the way she does. I ended up enjoying her journey from a hopeless recluse to a young woman with a full life. It's a great story of letting go of our past and our routines and stepping out of our comfort zone to find the joy we all deserve.

I started off eye rolling and, by the end, was rooting for Eleanor so completely that I could feel it in my heart. Such beautifully-drawn characters. Near the top of my list for a favorite of the year - which was a surprise. Loved it.
