Lies & Love Songs

Sarina Bowen

3.56 AVERAGE

Jonas blows back into the tiny Maine town he has missed since leaving five years ago and is more than thrilled to find the girl who stole his heart is there too. Not to mention a pretty big... or small... secret. Kira never thought she would see the mysterious musician from all those years ago - despite having a secret that he doesn't know about yet.

I love Sarina Bowen books - you don't have to look far to see that - and this is no different. This was definitely a different read for me - rockstar romance and secret baby aren't really tropes I go for. That being said - a solid three-star read. Jonas is an absolute sweetie. Just a love of a human who so desperately wants to be loved and be able to depend on. He honestly had very human reactions and was such a lively character. I wasn't as thrilled with Kira. I found her passive and honestly - sort of a coward. But that might just be me. The pacing was a bit strange too - like wrapped up VERY quickly and I felt like there was a lot that wasn't totally resolved which was interesting.

Overall - a sweet, not too steamy, or heavy read. (Definitely not as heavy as some of her other books).

Side Note: I did love the brother character - Adam - and manager - Ethan. Can I have their book?! Great set up for the rest of this trilogy that is shared with Devney Perry (book two) and Rebecca Yarros (book 3).

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

To start, I did enjoy this ! It was a cute, second chance romance. BUT. There was something important missing - heart. It built really quickly and felt a little all over the place, so I never really felt that relationship build and never got the feels for these characters. Even the serious topics felt a little rushed and disingenuous. Audio performance: really, really good.

2.5 stars. Review not likely to come. Was honestly just a little boring.

I read this book because I noticed that the other two books were written by Devney Perry, who I like, and Rebecca Yarros, who I love. This one wasn’t all that…

The events in the book felt half finished and it just didn’t feel all that realistic. Yeah, Jonas is a famous musician but I feel like I only got that vibe when he said it. Kira had a lot of shit going on too, but I just didn’t get that strong woman vibe from her. She loves her daughter and has a great support system, but you’re strong as shit on your own and I didn’t feel that character development.
