I adore Kate Spade. The style and fashion of that brand makes me feel so pretty and posh. This book was a sweet and reflective memoir from one of Katy Spade’s best friends and business partners as they went from working college besties on financial aid in the 80s to founding one of the biggest brands in handbags and fashion that doesn’t break the bank (for the most part). I loved the glimpses into 80s college life and living and making it in NYC and the ups and downs of starting a business. Of course it also touches on Katy’s death which I still remember vividly the day that news broke. If you’re a fan of memoirs of women making it on their own in business or a Kate Spade girlie, this read is for you.

I picked up this book to learn more about Kate Spade's mental illness that led her to commit suicide. Unfortunately the author chose to write only about all of the entitled and privileged hard work they experienced while building the kate spade brand and company.
I almost DNF but I was so hopeful that she would get to the grittier side of Kate Spade's life. She didn't.
