It took Elyce Arons seven years after the death of her best friend and business partner, Kate Spade, to write We Might Just Make It After all. But this isn’t a book about grief. It’s about friendship, creativity, and the beautiful, vibrant life Kate lived. It’s about the joy of building something from nothing, the magic of having someone by your side who shares your vision, and the lasting impact of true partnership and friendship.

Narrated by Elyce herself, the audiobook feels deeply personal. I especially loved learning how the company came to be – every detail from the early days of designing bags in a small apartment to becoming a fashion household name.

Elyce is intentional in keeping the focus on Kate’s life and work, not her struggles or the details of her death, which are only mentioned briefly. Sometimes soulmates come in the form of friends, and that’s exactly what this book captures so beautifully.

I think you’d need to be a long-time  lover of Kate Spade the brand to really jive with this. I’m not the target audience. I realize that the most interesting thing about Kate Spade the person should not be her suicide but I can’t lie… that is why I picked this up. The author obviously loved her very much and it sounds like they had a TON of fun together but ultimately the writing was - very often - out of touch. I don’t think you can cast yourself as scrappy entrepreneurs when all four founders have houses in the Hamptons and flats in Manhattan… anyway I’m glad I saw it through til the end. I realize that my deep intellectual and emotional interest in suicide - by the wealthy in particular - is different story and best tackled by a different book
