I think I’ve just found my favourite book for this year
sorry but you lost me when sabine was revealed to care so much about ailesse because she's her sister and not because she has saphhic feelings for her
*i retracted the additional star. I only give 3 stars to books I could possibly ever read again and this just isn’t that. I wish I never forced myself to read it in the first place if I’m being honest*
I’m really torn on if I should be giving this book 2 stars instead of 3. The ONLY reason I think I’m giving it the extra star is because the end was promising enough to possibly give some hope for the next book being better. Or I just want to know what happens in the end and am mistaking that for the book actually getting better. See? Torn.
This had so much potential. The idea for a great story is there, it was just executed so poorly.
ACTION ACTION AND MOREEEE ACTION. That’s all this is. Right from the start it’s just action. It gets SO boring reading scenes with so much action and drama, ESPECIALLY when you have no connection to characters whatsoever.
There was no attempt to even make you feel something for characters before action was dove into until after 60%. It’s never ending in this book. World building is poorly done and character development is grazed over in the simplest way possible.
Like I said, after 60% some attempts are made to connect characters, but in the most simple straightforward of ways. Things happen as you expect them to and nothing is deep, I still didn’t care for characters even as they grew closer and this book focuses on 3 separate POVs and only 2 characters have a focus of somewhat building a relationship with others. The 3rd character is never really evolving much and forms no attachments, therefore you tend to not care about them.
Everything in this book is just so surface level and dull. So disappointing because there’s so much promise in the actual story, if only the author actually took time to add depth and emotion.

This book started out slow but it really picked up in about the middle and I found myself really enjoying the characters and the story line.
I thought it was so interesting how the story turned into a sort of mystery between what Odiva is up to, as well as what the Leurress are. I thought learning the history was super intriguing and that it fit well with the story of Les Dames Blanches. I liked how Ailesse and Bastien’s relationship developed. It was too slow, and it wasn’t instant love either, it was a nice in between that had me rooting for them. I also liked Sabine’s journey into become a Leurress and finding her friend. I will say that I think the story could have ended differently and am not sure how much I enjoy that ending. Otherwise super great and I’m interested to see how the story goes.

Absolutely fantastic! I cannot wait for the sequel!!
Incredibly boring, flat characters and insta-love. Gave it 3 stars instead of 2 because I liked the magic system.

I have really mixed feelings about this. At one point I like the characters and their chemistry! Especially Marcel, Sabine, Bastien and Ailesse. Also the worldbuilding and the story is really good. But well at the beginning I unexceptly really disliked Bastien insted of Ailesse as so many said. The good thing is that the characters became more likeable through the book. I really got to like Bastien as soon as he started to like Ailesse. These two are really cute tho. But I also hated Jules and Odiva, they were sooo annoying. Besides that the story wasnt really slow..but I think the writing was...I really had to stick through it at some pointes. Also the last fight scene was soo confusing I couldn't really follow the writing at this point...The ending was ok. It was just getting on my nerves that Sabine didnt say everything she knew about Odiva. Overall it was a pretty good book! The action was nice, it was also cute, the world is interesting, the story was challenging...it was just a good/okay read i guess.
