I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was so excited to get my hands on The Memory Thief!

I LOVED it for so many reasons, and here are a few:

1. The cover art! I can't help it—I love beautiful art!
2. The mc, Rosie, loves books!
3. Witches!
4. Ghosts!
5. A BFF :)
6. Two girls navigating real life and how their friendship is changing.
7. I know I already said ghosts, but they're on the list again because there are more ghosts, and you're going to love the variety!
8. The kids must solve the problem!!!
9. Danger, adventure, mayhem, storms, secrets!!! And more!

I think The Memory Thief has the right amount of spookieness for middle-grade, and I can't imagine anyone not loving it! As I stepped into the pages, it was like I'd turned back the clock and remembered my middle-grade years. What a beautiful story! I highly recommend it!

An adventure-filled story about a girl whose family is gifted (or cursed?) with the ability to fight evil witches. Full of magic, ghosts, cloud shepherds, a moon goodness, and more. I loved the cast of loveable characters and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story plays out in book 2.

This was such a fun story.  Fantastic world build and delightful characters.  I can't wait to read book 2.

I really enjoyed this. I couldn't stop turning pages! One thing I would change
is the idea that you are not 'whole' if your twin is no longer alive, or physically in your life. I know why this was part of the story, but it didn't sit well with me.

A lovely first book in what I suspect will be a bit of a sprawling fantasy adventure. I quite like the slightly grim tone of the magic in Rosie's world (very ghost heavy), and there is tons of excitement to be had in the plot, but overall I found the characters to be a bit too vaguely sketched to really connect with as much as I'd like. Don't get me wrong all of the characters are interesting but they just never felt particularly solid, even Rosie (our protagonist and POV character) felt a bit wobbly from a character direction. Likely this will even out as Anderson gets deeper into the series and we have more time to spend with the cast.

Still! This is a great middle grade fantasy adventure, especially for the slightly spooky tween in your life. Tiny Darcy would have loved it without reservation & I'll certainly be recommending it to any mini-me's I might find in the library!

I feel like I should have liked this more than I did. Gave it the 2-star "it was ok" rating.

It’s me not the book. I got caught up with other books and probably won’t pick this one back up
