26/11/23 - it’s been a few years since I first read this and yeah it still hits, such a great book. Still sad we didn’t get Luce’s reaction tho.

9/11/2019 -

This is one of the best romance novels I've ever read, I loved the fake dating slow build and watching these two women get to know one another.

The romantic plot was very well developed and really made you root for these two women; the side plots of Hayden's family, Sam's family and even Luce being non-binary all added a lot of heart and soul to the characters.

This is definitely a romance I can see myself re-reading - which is saying something since even though I am a big re-reader I almost never like romances enough to read them more than once.

The only thing that surprised me is I expected there to be a reveal that same was possibly autistic - her inability to grasp social cues and situations made it seem like that might end up impacting the plot. It's possible she was coded that way but that it wasn't really relevant so it was never brought up. I'm not too sure but all in all, I really liked this take on the 'cold seemingly arrogant' rich love interest that exists in so many novels. She's not rich and haughty because she thinks she's better than everyone she just prioritises efficiency at her job over everything else and doesn't really understand how to be social.

Nice book, I found it a bit too long in some parts, slow and tedious at the beginning but i wouldn't have it otherwise. It's perfect in timing, when you think about it, Hayden despite Sam how the heck would she fall for her in a month or so?
Hence the author picked a pase that adjusted very well to the story, all seemed something that could actually happen.
I liked the fact there were no unnecessary dispute between the both.
Also it's my first time reading a book with a non-binary character and I really like it.
My favorite part of all the book:
“Hayden, what did you do?”

Really appreciated the pacing in this story. I feel like this book has a bit of an awkwardness to it, but not in a bad way.

"She wanted to drop her forehead against Sam’s chest, to cling to something, anyone that could drive out this painful throb in her stomach, this feeling of rejection or grief or whatever was crawling along her skin."

I found this to be a bit of a slog for a while, and it took me a bit of time to warm to and therefore root for the characters, particularly Sam. However, it did end up picking up a lot and I came to really care for Hayden and Sam; their slow-burn romance worked well and I enjoyed the explorations of their friendships and family relationships too (and appreciated some of the themes that went along with these).

I also HAVE to mention how much I adored Hayden's cat, Frank, and how much I loved that he played such a prominent role in the story!

This wasn't a new favourite romance for me, then, but I enjoyed it overall and it was both a cute time and a story with a decent amount of depth.
