It's a compilation of random stories about the main/side characters. There's no plot whatsoever even though it attempts to focus on the romance between Hitomi and Takeo. But I think it was written that way, so it would be lighthearted and easy to read. I wasn't that satisfied with the ending because I wanted more of Hitomi and Takeo.

Fun little story about relationships and work. The main love interests could have been more compelling.
somewhat disappointed
2 1/2 STARS
After having read 'Strange Weather in Tokyo' sometime ago, I was really looking forward to this less well known book by Hiromi Kawakami, but I have to admit that I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
There were several elements that left me somewhat confused:
- some of the dialogues are very short and sometimes end quite suddenly
- the relationship between Hitomi and Takeo doesn't seem to evolve and I got the impression that neither of them were sure what they wanted
- a lot of different people enter the store (and the story), but they left me with the impression of being just casual attributes or anecdotes
- apart from the on and off relationship between Hitomi and Takeo, there isn't much of a storyline either, just mostly random encounters.
I felt it very hard to get into this book and to feel any kind of sympathy for the main characters.

Mid
I mean if you want to read a go-nowhere-fast type of book, or if you’re taking a break from heavy stuff then yeah it’s a decent read.
