I love books about nothing and this a really great one. The characters were flawed and not particularly loveable even though you ended up getting attached and invested in them. It was a great character study and just felt like a really refreshing glimpse into the day to day life of ordinary people. I also really loved the different writing and speaking style which I can only assume was derived as much as possible from the original Japanese. Really impressed with this quick read.

This was a challenging book in that it was hard to read through how the characters felt. I never quite felt connected to Hitomi. In saying that though, there were some tender moments in which I thought I could relate!
I didn’t actually expect her and Takeo to get together, so that felt quite nice 😊
Maybe I need to read more Japanese literature and see it from a different light, but for me this book felt average. I liked reading the descriptions of the Tokyo scenes and foods (as I usually do), and that made me feel homesick. I would suggest this book to someone who was looking for an easy read, something that didn’t leave them shocked. All in all, 3 out of 5 stars for me ✨
