I love just about everything Backman writes. This town and these characters he has created are all believable, flawed, worthy - and I root for them all. I also love the mis-direction that he uses so well - I know that there is something coming but I am always paying attention to the wrong thing when he hits me with it! Just waiting for Beartown #3 to come out in English!

loved the part where everyone got their happy ending and kevin shot himself

Ok ok I guess I’m a sucker for Fredric Backman’s way with words. He creates these worlds with multidimensional characters, says stuff like, “Grief is a wild animal that drags us so far out into the darkness that we can’t even imagine getting home again,” and then pulls you along in the story so that you genuinely care about these people. Yes, this was a continuation of the Beartown story, but I believe it could stand on it’s own. The audio version kept me wanting to break away to hear what would happen next and I had to pause and relisten to numerous pearls of wisdom and insight.

Not sure why Bachman takes joy in making me sob like a toddler, but he did it again. He is one of my favorite character authors because he makes every so HUMAN: flawed, likable, and disdainful.

this book ripped my heart out and stomped on it

A strong sequel and seamless continuation of the story with new perspectives and POVs. Following the everyday lives of a myriad of characters in a small town where hockey serves as both a division and a unifier. The author details how violence, bigotry, assault, etc. affect a town on an individual and community level. Exceptional and heartbreaking with memorable and thought provoking quotes summarizing societal norms and behaviors, some disappointing, some hopeful.

I have a shocking lack of self control when it comes to these books. Second was just as good as the first and a bit more heartbreaking
