Maybe my mood influenced this, but starting around 70-75% I was just annoyed with the MMC. Then things improved and I liked some things, but I still mostly meh by the ending. Probably just a me thing, but it is what it is.

Plays Well with Others is #2 in the series How to Date but each of these books can be read as a standalone. In fact, I am doing just that. This is my first book in the series to read. Just FYI My So-Called Sex Life is book #1. I will be picking that book up soon. It is one of this author's books that is on Kindle Unlimited.

This is Rachel Dumont and Carter Hendrix. They are best friends. Rachel just got out of a bad marriage and Carter has had a few bad relationships that have him swearing off of the “R” word (Relationship) Neither of them are ready for a relationship but they are taking their friendship to a new level.

I love the chapter titles in this book. One of them is If you give a Moose a to-do list.

Oh yeah Carter likes to talk dirty. I will allow him to talk dirty to me any time.

I loved reading Plays Well with Others. It is a sexy romp and a cute romance!

Lauren has done it again! This is the second book I’ve read by this author and this one did not disappoint!

It’s a light and witty and definitely spicy story that I ate up!! I love how their friendship blossomed into something more.

Carter is one of those MMC that acts a cinnamon roll in public but get him alone and he’s completely different in the best possible way!

This did not work at all for me. It should have been better. Rachel is back after a terrible divorce from a man who treated her horribly and left her with a lot of baggage. She decides to throw a party for herself as she heads into a newer, better version of her life. There to catch her as she falls into this new life is her bff Carter, a professional football player who has his own dramatic romantic history. One thing leads to another, and the two of them decide to help each other out [insert wink emoji] by creating a series of videos about how to date your best friend. Those date nights (the on camera part) were actually the best part of this book. Unfortunately, I think that Lauren Blakely chose to lean heavily into the physical chemistry between Rachel and Carter, and after five minutes this got boooooring. I wanted to feel more of the deep friendship and mental connection between these two people who had been burned by 'love' in the past and just needed to see what was right in front of their faces. It would have been lovely if it had taken more than five pages for these two to fall right into a level five physical relationship after being just friends for so long. But they just jump head first into shagarama-ville, and there is nowhere for this story to go. We basically get a gazillion moments of 'I don't want to ruin the friendship, and what if he/she doesn't feel the same' angst over and over and over again. Then there is the obligatory 'can I ever trust again' moments thrown in for good measure. I like Erin Mallon (but, here again, I think I've listened to WAY too many of her narrations lately) and Teddy Hamilton as narrators. But they cannot overcome a weak story. This one gets two stars from me. It was okay.
