I've read a few things on Lizzie Borden over the years and this is by far one of the better written accounts. The style of writing made it easy to follow and I thought the way the facts were presented was brilliant. The narrative is incredibly engaging so you don't feel like you are just reading fact after fact. I read this myself then gave it to my 12 year old cousin to read to get his opinion and he found the whole book riveting.

I have always been oddly fascinated by the Lizzie Borden story. Maybe because the crime occurred on my birthday?!? Or maybe because nobody really knows who did it! You may feel strongly a certain way after reading this book as it gives you as much evidence and background as is possible. I know what I believe....

The book was easy to read and not bogged down by unnecessary details. The author showed both evidence of guilt and innocence. She laid out all the necessary players of the trial and kept a list of who was who which made it easy to follow
Well written and researched. I found myself changing my mind several times while reading it, whether Lizzie was guilty or not. This is my first time reading a crime novel as a push for myself. I found it interesting the treatments ot the Borden women and how people described them in 1892, as well as court proceedings.
Interesting read even though it was mostly about the trials and the transcripts I was still enthralled by it. Was not expecting the pictures. Specially one, will let you guess which one.
Fascinating and riveting read for true crime fans everywhere -- though aimed at middle-grade, I'd probably only give this one out to middle school and up due to the descriptions/select photos of the murder and crime scene.
"Lizzie Borden took an axe,
Gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
Today, everything most people know of Lizzie Andrew Borden is contained in those four singsong lines of doggerel. And nearly everything in those four lines is wrong."
It hadn't occurred to me until I started this book that I really knew nothing about the story of Lizzie Borden. I liked the writing style and thought it was balanced. I appreciated the information pulled out in sidebar boxes and the photographs.
