well, that was disappointing. the writing felt very juvenile and the voices of each narrator were inconsistent. the plot was fine and i liked the pacing, but i hated literally every character except ty and sora. idk how im supposed to root for any of the others when they’ve all done terrible things and haven’t seemed to change much at all. this is what i get for being fooled by a pretty sprayed edge🤷♀️

I realllly wanted to like this more than I did. Unfortunately this fell very flat for me.
I did enjoy the world building/lore and magic in this book I thought it was unique and interesting. I also enjoyed that females were BA in their own ways. They weren't exceptional fighters and embraced being women. I find that so often authors are making their female characters more like men and this is what makes them "special" so I enjoyed seeing the women embrace their femineity.
Butttt that does not make up for the fact that the characters had very little depth and the plot was very surface level and in your face. The romance is essentially insta-love and feels shallow. the first part of the book felt like it was going no where. There is a plot twist at the end but I don't feel like it added that much to the story and was only there to setup another book. I enjoyed Aire and her story hers was the only one with any kind of mystery.
I will continue the series because sometimes the first book just isn't it.
Audiobook review: 3 stars. the female narrators were good. the voice for Euyn drove me crazy. the pacing and volume is inconsistent. He fluctuates between fast louder talking then in the next breath to finish the sentence his voice is lower and slower. When sped up this is way more noticeable. the narration is good enough to still enjoy this on audio if that's your preference.
Format: I read the 3D copy and listened on audio

Who will turn on who? Who is actually the traitor? How did these 5 (although technically six) people end up coming together to try to assassinate a god-king?
Man this one kept me guessing. I always kind of leaned towards one being the traitor because of certain language used throughout, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting book 2.

should have DNF'ed this instead of finishing, didn't work for me
The writing was choppy and the plot progressed too slowly for my taste. Time moves slowly when you’re constantly jumping between five POVs.
