Intriguing plot but the writing was just not for me. Too much telling instead of showing, and already repetitive

DNF at page 110... because there are about 100 characters and I barely care about one of them.

It is very slow paced and it reads all like a set up for the end. You realize pretty quickly where the plot twists are going to be but you need to read til the end to understand how they do the plot twist.
it was so so obvious that Aeri was the one betraying them and that the Father was a fancy person - just not the king. Same with her "powers" that came from the amulet

Lies, betrayal, and true friendship! I thought this was a great read — lots of action and really rich characters with lots of development. The plot was complex and tangled, with a great twist at the end of the story. Maybe a few pacing problems, but overall a really good read.

This read more YA than I anticipated, in that the character's motivations and thought processes were very simple and laid out plainly for the reader (lots of telling, not showing), but I still enjoyed it quite a lot. It was funny and I felt invested in the relationships between Aeri & Royo and Mikhail & Euyn. Took part of a star off for how unpolished/cringey some of the writing felt (like Royo's early chapters where his internal monologue felt a little like if you'd asked a kid to come up with the coolest, dark and tortured badass character they can think of).
Am also hoping to see more character development for Euyn in the next book where he realizes what he's been taught about women is misogynistic as hell.
