**************************************The taking of Annie Thorne by C.J Tudor************************************** is a fast-paced thriller that keeps the reader on their toes and as the novel progresses the questions become more and more. The novel contains good plot twists that keep the reader guessing as they read the novel and universal life lessons. Furthermore, it contains beautiful descriptions of the protagonist’s childhood town, Arnhill, and a wide array of characters that the reader gets to know at a deeper level throughout the novel. The creepy atmosphere is also well-executed and portrayed throughout the novel. The novel also excellently portrays how peer pressure, choice of friends, misfortune or trauma, and bullying can prompt people to become addicted to certain things to escape reality. However, the use of cuss words was quite unnecessary for me as it did not have any use other than portraying frustration or sounding cool. The ending was mildly shocking at best for me and the supernatural (paranormal) aspects surrounding the pit could have been more developed. Moreover, the reader is left with unanswered questions after finishing the novel. I would recommend this novel for mystery, crime-lovers, but I wouldn’t recommend the book for people looking for a horror story.

Leí el hombre de tiza y sabía que tenía que leer este también. Me encantó y la historia me mantuvo pendiente todo el tiempo.

esperava uma coisa mais homem de giz, achei meio decepcionante porque nao gostei de ser sobrenatural
After reconsideration I have lowered my rating slightly to 3.5*
I was sent this proof copy of The taking of annie thorne from the lovely people over at penguin
I enjoyed this book! It was slightly chilling, mysterious and thought provoking all in one. Our main protagonist Joe was a nobody in his youth, a nobody who fell into the wrong crowd and has regretted his decision to do so ever since, the choices him and his friends made, which caused him to lose his sister, may be being repeated. I'm not particularly a fan of Joe, he's arrogant, rather selfish and he comes accross as quite the pathological liar ..HOWEVER, I understand why he was written that way, it definitely contributes towards helping us understand how the whole story happens the way it does and why.
I won't lie, I enjoyed how gruesome this book can be and how much detail CJ Tudor puts into her writing, some may find it off putting, I on the other hand.. I find it thrilling!
The issue I had was that it was pretty slow at times and I felt as though It was just dragging and I felt the need to put it down for a while and get my mind focused again.
All things considered, I did enjoy this book, the twists and unexpected turns you have thrown at you are spot on, and the background adds so much more depth! Although I will say.. If you aren't a fan of bigotry and prejudice then I'd say this book isn't for you, it's not exactly short of either!

The book starts off strong, with the gruesome discovery of the bodies of Julia and her son Ben. Julia had murdered her son and then killed herself, but not before writing the words 'Not My Son' on the wall above Ben in blood. We then meet Joe, a disgraced English teacher who is running away from his gambling debts and returns to his hometown to try and get closure on his past. The story alternates between what happened to Joe and his sister Annie when they were younger and the present day. The book was really slow-paced, and not a whole lot happened, but each chapter left me with thoughts and questions I assumed would get answered at the end of the book ... spoiler alert ... they didn't!!! The last 1/3 of the book picked up pace slightly, but then it just didn't seem to get wrapped up. I was left wanting more. More answers on what happened, on who it happened to, on why only certain people were affected, more answers about the friendships and relationships.
Honestly, I don't tend to like books which revolve around the supernatural and had I known this was, I wouldnt of picked it up in the first place, so maybe thats why I didnt enjoy it. But honestly, I think it's just not that well written. It had the basic foundations there to make it a brilliant, creepy thriller, but sadly, C.J. Tudor just didn't put enough in it to really substantiate it, and it just left me feeling 'meh' when I finished it.

Což mě neuvěřitelně nudí a mám sto chutí knihu odložit.
