Terrific continuation of the adventures of Royce and Hadrian. I suspect I will have to reread the 3 books I started with a t some point. This is a fun world to live in for a while.

Okay, better than The Crown Tower. I didn't think that was possible, because I did really like that book, but it seems this is a series that promises to get better as the plot 'thickens'. Each new book hints at things to come in the original series, and the world building is starting to intrigue me. Admittedly I am further along in the series but felt I needed to re-visit and share my love for origin stories. I love getting to know the characters in depth and getting in on inside stories. Make a point to read the extras! The interviews are awesome and well worth the read.

Really enjoyed this second read. Definitely a strong 4 - 4.25 rating. At first I wasn't sure of the discrepancy between this read and the first, but it mostly came down to the character of Reuben Hilfred. I don't dislike Reuben in the least, but his is a life that keeps getting beat down, and his pinning for the princess got stale. I can see where it provided motivation for the end of the book but his sections were dry, and there were enough of them to drop the rating.
Royce can't be touched in this story. Not by a long shot. He is at his most ruthless, vengeful, devious, protective, callous. My goodness, but we get such a range from his character in TRatT. Also thoroughly enjoyed the introduction of Albert.
Oh, this is a good one. More so than I remember.

3.5 Overall fun adventure, at times intense, enjoyable, funny - just didn't hold my interest as well as the other stories in the Riyria series.

I enjoyed the development of the friendship between Hadrian and Royce and was very happy to revisit Gwen (who was my favorite character in the Crown tower). But Rose - poor Rose.
Not much to say about this one. It wasn't as good as the first and the story wasn't particularly unique, but it was well told and fun.
