I was offered to review the last book in the series, Wulfe Untamed, which released on January 28th, but since I hadn’t read the series yet, the publisher sent me the whole series! Totally awesome right? I’m especially glad they did because I hadn’t heard of this series before and I truly enjoyed the first book!
If I had to describe the book in a few words it would be, ‘Imagine the Black Dagger Brotherhood… but with shifters!’ Honestly, I felt a very strong BDB vibe when reading the book, but fear not, they are completely different stories. There are similarities that sure contributed to my feelings and here they are. First, it’s a bunch of celibate living together in a kind of manor. Secondly, they are all alpha males, warriors protecting their race and not all of them are amiable. They have also weirdly spelled names such as Lyon, Hawke, Wulfe, Paenther, etc. And last, the story evolves in a closed world, which means humans don’t know they exist.
I particularly enjoyed the lore Palmer developed. The warriors are a circle protecting the Therians (their race) against mages and draden (incorporeal demon things). They draw their power from their Radiant, a chosen by Fate woman that can connect to the earth and allows the warrior access to their full powers, including the one to shift in their respective animals. I thought it was very original and miss Palmer managed to introduce every aspect very seamlessly. The first book is all about Lyon (the leader) tracking, finding, and trying to train the new Radiant after the last one died. One problem? She thinks she’s human. It was great to discover everything alongside Kara!
The passion runs really high in this novel and I really enjoyed how it was handled. We are used to both heroes being meant to be together, but it’s not the case here. Very slight spoiler ahead View Spoiler ». This situation brings in a forbidden element and both parties fight their mutual attraction because it’s unfortunately the right thing to do. Let me tell you, this brings the sexual tension rocket high, to our delight!
The plot really is romance driven, but there is still a healthy amount of action involved and there are some extremely interesting plot twists I had not expected at all! I was completely engrossed from the get go and it was really hard to put the novel down. Being surprised by the conclusion is also a nice addition!
Paranormal romance lovers must get their hands on this series, especially fans of Ward and Cole. I’m sure you’ll find yourself right at home. And the best thing? All eight books in the series are already released, so you won’t have to suffer between releases!

Desire Untamed is the first book in Pamela Palmer’s Feral Warriors series, and I’ve had this book in my bookcase since 2012. Thank goodness for the #Romanceopoly Challenge I was able to pick up this book finally. It fulfilled the Bar square on the board since Pamela Palmer shares an initial with me. Our last names both start with ‘P.’
What I liked about the first book –
1. I loved the idea of Feral Warriors (also known as Therians) shapeshifting into different creatures and are sworn to rid the world of evil. It was different from other PNR books I’ve read.
2. I also loved that the Feral Warriors’ names give away what they shapeshift into the story. The main male character, Lyon, changes into a Lion. His name gives it away, and so does the other characters. The female character in the book had no idea until later what they shifted into because she was thrust into the world of Feral Warriors due to her being the Radiant.

I really disliked this book. It had a lot of potential but the execution was terrible. The narrator was okay but the audiobook was a chore to get through.
Kara lived her life as human until a man shows up at her house claiming she is a “radiant” and savior of his race. This man, Lyon, explained that Kara wasn’t really a human but a Therian, a race that protects humans but they are being hunted by demons. The Therians had a group of soldiers called Feral Warriors that protected the race. The feral warriors were shifters but they had to be in close proximity with the radiant in order to shift and have full use of their individual strengths.
There was only one radiant and she was to be mated to one of the warriors. Only through mating the warrior, can the radiant “Ascend” to her full magical powers. The radiant had to kiss and be subjected to ALL 9 of the warriors’ touches before her mate was revealed. It’s a fated mate thing revealed once they are intimately touching. Honestly, the whole act to "Ascend" was so ridiculous. Everything was just steeped in sexual contact that overshadowed the story. It just seemed like Kara was the house chew toy. The warriors treated her poorly, the demons were trying to kill her, and she was just trying to figure out her place in this new world.
I didn’t like that the author never explained why Kara was he chosen to save the race. So much wasn't explained in this book. Why is there only one radiant and there are 9 warriors who need mates. How these warriors lived with a traitor and the whole thing with the doubles. Frankly, the writing was poor, the story wasn’t entertaining, and the nothing made sense. I saw a review comparing this series to BDB, that's just straight up blasphemy. However, the idea of the story has potential, so I will read book 2 to see if there are some explanations. I won't continue after book 2 unless the story is much tighter!
*Special thanks to Tantor Audio for the audiobook, which was given in exchange for an honest review.

Kara MacAllister grew up in a small town, close to her mother, she is a school teacher, but then her mother is dying from cancer, and needs to stay as close to her as possible. Then her life is disrupted when a stranger enters their home, and claims that she is the chosen and must come with him. With her life upside down, she knows she has no choice but to go with him since her life is in danger by creatures she has never seen or heard of before. Lyon knows that Kara is their only hope for their people. Lyon shared a strong connection to Kara, one he has never before experienced with a woman, and knows that because she is the Chosen, that she is offlimits, especially since it appears she isn't his mate, but he craves her like never before....Desire Untamed is the first of the Feral Warriors Series. This is the first that I have read from this author, and I am so glad I finally did...This was a astounding read, it was such a whirlwind that I found I was swept away in the magical world that Pamela Palmer has created. I just fell on love with Kara and Lyon, such riveting characters. There was such a likable quality about them, that I couldn't help but smile throughout the whole of the book....the plot was thrilling and full of intensity....A Hot Read!!!!
My Favorite Quote
Mine, his beast roared as he claimed her mouth, his senses exploding. Just as quickly she began to kiss him back as she seemed to recognize who held her. His beast gentled, his kiss turning hot and needy, recognizing the creature beneath him as his mate, not prey.

Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Honestly that was pretty solid!! Some twists genuinely caught me by surprise. Obviously very spicy. Not quite re-read level of good but certainly not mad about the couple hours I spent on it!
Graphic: Blood
1/2 way done and very frustrated. You can see the bad guy a mile away. You see when some sort of spell is cast. They never expect a spell even after it is found on the house and they never question the validity of her hating the mate chosen. I really dislike almost all the characters and one really TSTL move. All the women are painted so poorly.
Got better in the second half, last quarter but didn't make up for the inability for the warriors to see and not listening to their supposed power source.
The premise and world is interesting so I'll try another but I don't know if I can come to like the other characters that much. They would have to change their attitude something serious from the judgmental a-holes to something more inclined to instinct.

She should have held resentment, not wanting forgiveness or feeling like she was lucky to get it.The premise and world is interesting so I'll try another but I don't know if I can come to like the other characters that much. My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
This is the first book in Pamela Palmer's Feral Warriors series. I was not familiar with Ms. Palmer until I saw her at a book signing earlier this year. I really liked her and wanted to look her up. When I heard that her Feral Warrior series was going to be released on audio, I decided to wait to give it a listen instead of reading it. I did pick up her Vamp City series, which isn't on audio at this time, and I really liked it, so I was excited when Tantor offered me the opportunity to review these on audio.
I came into this series knowing very little about it. Even though it had been out for a while in books, I hadn't read the reviews. Once I decided I was going to review the books, I wanted to go in with as little outside influence as possible. I just saw that many of my friends read them and saw their ratings and that most of them were high. I knew the books were PNR and they were animal shifters, each male a different animal. I really like the world. It is such a different world than most of the shifter books out there. I mean, there are several things that are common. They can shift into animal, I mean duh. These shifters have an immortal life span, but can in fact die, if a mortal wound is inflicted. When that happens, a new feral of the same animal will take his place. So there will always be one of each of the different animal types.
The heroine in this story, known as the Radiant. She was raised human and knows nothing of this world, but she is essential to the lives of these warriors. The warriors have been looking for this new Radiant since their previous Radiant died. The Radiant, like the warriors, is immortal, but can die from fatal injuries. Because she was raised in the human world, it takes them months to find her and the lack of a Radiant has caused issues with the men. The woman in that position grounds them, helps them keep their "humanity" for lack of a better word. They have also lost their ability to shift, which is their greatest strength.
I won't go to much into the story itself. Let's just say that for the most part, it is suspenseful with some sensuality. There is a section in the middle where I thought the story got a little stuck and I felt that the story should "get on with it already". It was also a little bit predictable. The beginning and okay and the ending was good.
The thing that got me more than anything were the names. Each of the men are basically named their animal. Tighe (tiger), Paenther (panther), Jag (jaguar), Kougar (cougar), Hawke (hawk), Wulfe (wolf), Vhyper (venomous snake) and Foxx (fox). The hero in this book is Lyon, can you guess what he changes into? Also, notice the spelling of the names, which I didn't notice while listening, but does this look familiar? You can see where she gets some of her inspiration.
Overall, I will say that this series that has potential. I don't know how many great series where I've had to convince friends to continue reading past book one. I will definitely give this series more time and books and see how it goes. When reading or listening to a new author or series, I always like to give them at least two and sometimes even three books before I pass judgement.
The narration was okay. I listen to most of my audios at regular speed. I listened to so many CDs from the library before I got into using apps to listen, that I just was used to it. I still listen to my favorite narrators this way. With Rob Shapiro, I felt he read very slow with some long pauses and with a book that had slow parts in it away, it was just not doing it for me.Once I sped it up, it was much better. The different voices are not very distinct and the women's voices are a little feminine, but not much. At this time, he is not a narrator that I will go looking for, but I don't think he detracts from the book once you increase your listening speed.
I like to thank Tantor Audio for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I’m halfway through this book and right now, I regret starting this series. After reading some of the synopsis of the other books, I am just not interested in reading about Kougar and his “lost” mate who pretended to be dead for years.
Also not a fan overall with how the Ferals treat Kara, bitch is thrown around a lot... the fact that she was raised as a human and didn’t know anything at all about his world would be a great reason imo for gently easing her into a whole new world basically. Instead they seem entirely self-absorbed and unempathetic for how she feels and the fact that she feels literally frightened for her life! So much so that she’s willing to run away and risk getting attacked and maybe killed by the Draden (sp?)
Here’s a heartwarming quote for you:
Wulfe- “You faithless little bitch!”
Yeah, I can’t wait to read his story!
