Loved it. The relationship between Locke and Jean is so much fun to read. Excited to start the third book!

The author really knows how to write an action scene. The on-ship battles are brilliant. Pacing is spot on. The characters and their interpersonal relationships are compelling and the world building is great. Also, that was one hell of a cliffhanger to end on! I definitely plan to read the third instalment.

You know what, I'm giving this 4 stars just like the first, though I did enjoy the first one just a tiny bit more.

I was worried about this one due to events from the first leaving the characters in a particular spot. He did well at keeping me interested in his world and I'm looking forward to reading book 3 here in just a moment.

When I first picked up this book I wasn't really expecting anything groundbreaking. It was just something I got on sale to kill the time while waiting for another book to come out. I was pleasantly surprised when this book deviated from the norm in many ways. The main characters are witty and the author does a good job of making the reader love them despite them being thieves that are sometimes forced to kill people. The way that the main characters interact with every other character they meet is greatly amusing and doesn't take away from the more serious aspects of the book in any way. Locke and Jean have stolen a place on my favorites list for this book and hopefully the entire series.

The second book in the Gentleman Bastard series is a worthy follow up to the Lies of Locke Lamora. Overall the writing is better - better organization, better unveiling of the plot and less choppy when jumping between parts of the timeline when covering a flashback. The first book did the heavy lifting of introducing the main characters and most of their backstory. This one just flashed back to the time immediately after the first one ended. It is a gradual start (the reader should not get impatient - the storyline accelerates and gets more complicated as the story progresses. The reader may not agree with the way the story ends but I thought it was a satisfying conclusion which also leads to a third volume which could be more flexible. I would not be surprised if we see some of the characters from this volume (as well as others from the first volume) return in later installments. I would not recommend that anyone read this without having read the first volume.

Almost as good as the first book of the series (actually "as good as the 1st" minus the surprise).

Fun, but had 300 pages or so spent just to create a believable love interest who will be missed when they die. Full review here: http://www.scrivler.com/reviews/book-reviews/red-seas-under-red-skies-by-scott-lynch/.

An amazing sequel to “The Lies of Locke Lamora” this time on the high seas. The narrative jumps around in time a lot in the beginning, which I found a bit disorienting, but it all comes together in the end!
