I finished this book a while ago, I guessed I forgot to update, uups.
Ok so, I expected a lot, after reading my all time favorite If We Were Villains, I wanted to read a similar book, and this one was reccomended to me. I loved it, but It just didn't met my expectations. Still amazing, I love the characters and the plot.
A whole point goes to the illustrations of the characters, that just made me happy.

Technically a DNF, but I read up to where Libby is dead/somewhere in time and that felt like an ending so I didn't read any further. Loved the concept, really enjoyed the description of various median abilities but for the length of the book, nothing much happened in my opinion.

The premise and the prologue were so good but beyond that…that’s all you get out of this book. None of the characters are relatable at all and there’s zero plot. Keeping up with 6 points of view while writing in 3rd person omniscient SUCKS.

This one took me a bit longer to get through. Not because it was a bad book; I definitely enjoyed more parts than not. But, something about how the story itself flowed is keeping me from rating the book higher than a 4 star rating.
The world this story takes place in is super fascinating and left me wanting more history about the society and the origins and the growth of medeians throughout history, which obviously wasn’t the number one goal of this story, but I wouldn’t be mad to eventually read a prequel about.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed so much about the book. The concept was interesting and kept me going because I wanted more answers. The world building, albeit bare in some aspects, is really cool and interesting and a more adult take on the typical wizarding world concept. But there were certain things that left me wanting more. For one, there was a lot more telling and not showing in the style of writing… which made some parts of the story feel slow, particularly the moments they’re in “classes”. I found so much qualities of the six main characters to be insufferable, to be quite honest.
The only characters I found redeemable/somewhat like-able were Nico and Libby because I got the most out of both their stories from an emotional standpoint. Overall, if you’re interested in dark academia style new adult stories involving magic and wizardry, I’d give this one a chance because the foundations of the world built in this story are unique!

I personally found this book boring and pretentious, but it had good world building and interesting characters, each with very distinct personalities and motivations. If a bunch of manipulative and beautiful people endlessly talking and playing mind games with one another is appealing to you, then you'll love this book. Wasn't really for me though.
Hello yes I devoured this book in three days and it gets a star for each one.
Will I ever rate an Olivie Blake book more than 3 stars? I hope so, because I go in rooting for it every time but there’s always something that doesn’t quite scratch the whole itch, you know what I’m saying?
If you know me you know I love a character-driven story over a plot-driven story which is why I think I go into these books hooked. I really enjoyed reading this book and I was quite surprised as I wasn’t sure I bought into the concept. I’m engaged by the characters and I’m annoyed by the unfinished ending which has me knowing I’m going to pick up the next one. Did I guess how it was going to end? No, which gives it higher marks for me.
I’m still annoyed that at least once every part I have to pick up my phone to define a word, these books make me feel stupid but I think maybe it’s more that the word simply doesn’t fit the sentence as I don’t find myself doing this for anyone else’s books. It takes me out of the book which I just find frustrating. BUT I love the rest of her writing so I’m just going to keep on forgiving. Intrigued to see where this goes, don’t let me down now!!
