The reader is told at the beginning that parts of this are drawn from the author’s real life and some of it is fiction. It reads like a very convincing true crime book, reminiscent of actual true crime writer Anne Rule’s time working a suicide hotline next to Ted Bundy in the book Stranger Beside Me.

In Chasing the Boogeyman, Rich has just graduated from college and come back to his hometown to live with his parents until his wedding. Living at home will cut down on expenses so he can launch his horror magazine and his writing career.

Edgewood has become a place of fear-ridden hysteria since the bodies of mutilated teenage girls have started being posed and left in various parts of the town. Along with his friend Claudia, who is working as a journalist, they do their own searching for who this killer could be.

One of the best fictional true crime stories I have ever read! The writing makes you feel like your are reading something that truly happened…keeps you on the edge of your seat and leaves you wanting more!!

A fictionalized version of Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone In The Dark.

This book felt to me like what a Stephen King book would be without the pedophilia but with a good editor. It has some things that are interesting and worth taking a look at, but it's not so gripping that I can't walk away at any time and likely never think of it again.

I liked the flow of the story, and how the author made himself a character and blended truth with fiction. I appreciate the work that was put in to having photos made of the "crime scenes" to include in the book. It's a really great idea, and it felt truly like one of those true crime stories that you sort of binge and then immediately forget about. And wildly, that's what makes it 4 stars. It seems so close to truth that it's nearly indistinguishable.

All in, this won't grip you, but it's worth taking a look at.
