I really enjoyed this book and I have no comments to add to the discussion that haven't already been made.

It is a true crime thriller and I loved it.

I listened to it as an audiobook but I will be reading it as well. I just really want to get into the story in the way (for me) that only happens with text.

I have the sequel to this book, and I will be reading other books this author writes.

Richard Chizmar is a tricksy hobbit.

Did I read the right book? This is a memoir that goes into exacting detail about the layout of a guy's childhood home, and oh yeah, there's a (fictional but not "boogeyman"-level scary) killer on the loose. The big reveal didn't stun me at all. I'm confident the only reason Stephen King blurbed it is because he's name-dropped like five times.

Yes, I did finish the book because I wanted to see how it ends, and yes, it's really cool to blur the line between fact and fiction. But I didn't love the execution and don't think it lived up to the hype at all.

Thankfully, I bought it through Libro.fm so the profits went to my favorite indie bookshop.

- The author J. R. R. Tolkien had a word for that feeling—eucatastrophe. The opposite of catastrophe, and all the more important because it’s even rarer.

- Maybe that’s what grieving is all about: never forgetting what we’ve lost.

- Innocence once lost, can never be regained. Darkness, once gazed upon, can never be lost.

- If I was shadows and moonbeams and tales of death and horror, she was sunshine and laughter and the yellow brick road from The Wizard of Oz . We balanced each other.

- When a monster is finally caught against all odds, it feels like magic.

- According to a 2009 study conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, nearly 16 percent of American serial killers were adopted as children, while adoptees represent only 2 percent of the general population.

- This is what you do when you have a family. You get up when it's still dark outside and you go to work so the people you love can have a better life. Even when you're sick or tired and don't want to.

An incredible book written from a unique prospective of a fictional first person truce crime story. The book reads as if it's true and even includes photos at the end of most chapters to give that first personal feel. The beginning of Chasing... is a bit slow as Richard spends too much time in his childhood setting the scene. Things pick up pace after the first murder occurs. The book is absolutely engrossing from their on. Alternating between listening to the audiobook and reading chapters on my Kindle I was completely absorbed with Chasing... each day I spent with it. It ends in a very satisfying way and even better a sequel is coming soon.
