Beautiful language and a compelling story. Didn’t love the ending.

It was 5 stars until Freeman hastily ended the book with a pretty rushed explanation for the plot. It seemed like she got tired of writing.

A modern survival story in the vein of Island of the Blue Dolphins and Hatchet, except this story is told in verse. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook and found it hard to step away from.

I can see why this book is so popular with my middle grade patrons. It's easy to read and a gripping tale of survival, but set in a suburb. Like, what if you were abandoned but still had access to a grocery store? I enjoyed it.

Quick chapters written in a poetry style
A girl is left behind when the entirity of western MA is evacuated.
I found it to be a bit shallow, like an easy mindless escape. Not very stimulating
Themes: apocalyptic, poetry, dog

Wish there was more to the story and conclusion but enjoyable.
