Finished this last night. The reason behind the estranged relationship between the father and son unravels gradually throughout the play (yes it is a play), and it fully resonates with me. Both father and son I detest and yet both father and son I have known in real life. This the kind of book that I wish I didn't relate so much to. Needless to say, a solid 4 star.

I read this play for a college class and was very excited to dive into it because it has been held up as this great American Classic. I think I set my expectations much too high. This book didn't strike me as this profound piece of literature I had heard so much about. To me, this play was okay. I don't regret reading it, but I also don't regret putting it off either. I probably won't read it, again; although I wouldn't mind seeing a live performance if it wasn't out of my way.
