The characters and setting were intriguing; didn't like the stereotypical rape in her past, but that wouldn't have deterred me from reading.

Stopped reading after she insists that she wants to stay near her broken necklace while it's fixed bec obvs it's too dangerous without it. Then leaves the jeweler's store on a whim, has to be rescued by the jeweler - who ran out without locking her store - everything is broken and the necklace stolen.

It felt like reading a teen's plotting, before beta-reader feedback. Too many "why tf would you DO that?!?" moments for me.

A good story, reasonably interesting characters and interesting world were a little spoiled by the fact that the main character, Sam, never came over as a real woman. Once we got into sex scenes I realised the author must be a man and, on checking, I was right. None of it quite gells.

The whiplash between “Millennial Woman Who Likes Austen A Little Too Much and her boundary respecting vampire boyfriend” and “the antagonist is a sadistic serial rapist and murderer” is a lot.

Also uh, I don’t think the book ever addressed what happened to the second body in her freezer. Is it still there…?
