Hmm. The writing/translation of this is good, and it flows well/quickly, but it also might be too sci-fi for me? I feel like the memory police would have been more scary without the magical version of forgetting and disappearing.

an incredible look into how profoundly the people and things around you impact one’s sense of self

Bizarre, unfulfilling ending. Interesting concept.
The novel within the novel was highly symbolic, but creepy. Must suspend reality to comprehend.

4 - 4 and a half

Really got sucked into this book, loved the way it was written in a way that almost makes you forget little details like the characters in the book.
The dialog was interesting and flowed really well and I although I wouldn’t say it was subtle its commentary was also well done.

My main criticism is sometimes events felt like they were just thrown in because the writer didn’t know exactly how to progress the story or maybe felt like there wasn’t much action. I also would have liked to know a little bit more about the memory police past the one time we go their HQ.
