An incredible and similarly dystopian world like that of Farenheit 451, but sets forth a (imo) much more complex theory of personal & collective memory and how they connect to a sense of self.
If Bradbury's Farenheit 451 was a blazing fire that ripped through your mind and memory, then Ogawa's Memory Police is an island in far distance, fading gradually but surely into the fog.
A short reading experience that will quickly disappear from you, but the memory of it is not likely to escape me for a long time.
I savored and enjoyed this much, much more than I expected.

A quiet and haunting meditation on The Age of Extinction. It leaves me feeling desperate to remember as much as I can, to hold as much as I can, to see and feel and hear it all. To write and to remember.
Took a really interesting concept and made it boring

I didn’t really know where this one would go while reading it. The idea was something I’ve never heard or thought of, so it was really interesting.
I feel like I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time. The ending wasn’t a surprise but it was deeply sad.
I enjoyed the juxtaposition and somewhat foreshadowing of the novel the main character writes throughout the book.

some of the plot may led to believe that something BIG is coming, but it never did. the plot itself kind of misleading, therefore underwhelming.
but it was nice and depressing

I think I am going to think about the ending of this book for the rest of my life, I'm not exaggerating. I have never read something that made me feel so hollow and hurt! I knew I loved Ogawa's writing when I read The Housekeeper and the Professor, but this was an incredibly different genre, and I was so blown away by this one. The progression of this story is so subtle and yet terrifyingly quick that I almost felt like panicking when I saw where it was going! I think all scifi lovers would eat this up, and those who want a speculative-ish impactful read, this is for you!
