i was expecting more from this i think. it was quite contemplative but never enough in a way that was satisfying, so you spend the entire book wondering if anything will happen. any conflict is also like resolved with cop outs i feel like is lame. i think i who will never know men is similar but i feel like the takeaways from that are much more meaningful so that book is much better

Really liked this book until I didn’t. The ending is just. Not for me

Lilting and twisting prose, really felt like my brains were melting out of my ears but in a good way. I thought the novel within a novel framing was fantastic. In some ways I felt too dumb for this book. It dragged a bit for me in the middle and felt unsatisfying in the end but I bumped up a quarter star because I know I'm wrong for thinking the ending wasn't genius, and it just gave me a low, skin-deep anxiety.
