Not as famous a name (at least around my hometown) as Frederick Douglass, but the story of a free man from New York state who was kidnapped and enslaved in Louisiana. Seems to be a lot more positive towards his "good masters" than I would be. Looking it up, it's unfortunate that he kind of disappeared after writing his autobiography and no one knows what became of him, but maybe because of his history that's for the best.
Solomon Northup was kidnapped and sold into slavery. In his memoir he recounts the horrors he survived. This book made me feel a lot of feelings mostly anger. This book is also very well written.

This should be a must read for all Americans. It’s truly heartbreaking a gut wrenching the thing man has to endure. Makes you face some cold hard truths I think many people choose and prefer to ignore.
Should be required reading for everyone. Period.
