Really wished that the writing in this was better as I was hopeful with the synopsis!

I simply loved Frankenstein and this did not reach my expectations. It was also extremely heavy handed with the political references.

A fun and fresh take on Mary Shelley’s classic. There is a modern political twist and some exploration of what reanimating a dead person might entail as far as ethics and environmental impact go. I did think this story had a lot of holes in it, like… wouldn’t a reanimated person who just had his arm replaced have the same face and therefore be recognized by people from his past life? No? Also how are the memories wiped exactly? The author notes that he wrote the book fairly quickly and I do not doubt it. Still a fun, quick, Halloween themed book fit for the season.

There was such a strange pretentiousness to this book. When it focused on the small scale aspects of its story, I really enjoyed it. The characters were sweet and I was emotionally invested in them. However, the premise just doesn't hold water for me. How can someone's memories go but their education remain? What are the implications of likening the immigration crisis to a crop of Frankenstein's monsters? The humanity of Frankenstein's monster is up for debate (especially depending on the version you're looking at), but an immigrant is unarguably an equal human being. The MAGA stuff was hamfisted at best. I didn't seem the point of it until the end, and even then I was just disgusted (probs the point but not clever). Wouldn't recommend, which is a shame because the romance is so frickin' sweet.

A creative and timely take on Frankenstein - weaving themes around citizenship, memory, and the political forces that seek to dehumanize in a never satiated thirst for power.

I was surprised when I was all of a sudden at the end. There was a lot here, but I think if there was a little more time in it it could've really dove deep.

An interesting and timely reimagination of Shelley's Frankenstein. The president/MASA movement stuff felt a little too on the nose. I just happened to see this book in the New Releases section at the library, and I'm glad I picked it up because I don't know that I would have found it otherwise!
