Did I wake up at 4am to keep reading this? yes, yes I did.
This was a duet so it was two books + a brief novella at the end. Needless to say, it was LONG. But worth it! I love Maddox and Lila. It was a beautiful romance read that was very real and raw, no fairytales. It showed loved as it is- messy and crazy. The first book was a 5/5 for me. The second book I’ll give it a 4/5 simply because it felt like the drama was never ending and their behavior seemed childish at times even though they were in college. But in the end, it wrapped up beautifully. The ending novella was the cherry on top! I loved it.

“We balanced each other. She was the calm in my reckless life. I was the chaos in her peaceful one.”
It went down from a five to four stars because they should’ve just communicated their feelings, and just everything especially in book two. Lila couldn’t even communicate her feelings to Riley when she asked why Lila keeps walking away. Also she ran away so much and never gave Maddox a chance to explain both situations, like girl?
The ending of the first book had me screaming because what the heck happened, the ending of the first book had me hooked again. I love Riley and Colton and hated how we didn’t get a full ending to what happened to them.(they actually might have said but I was probably already just swiping through so oops). I love how the prologues soon go into the chapters, like ma’am, gold star for you
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Things I liked:
- “Maddox Coulter was still an asshole behind a pretty mask. And I was the stupid girl who fell in love with her best friend.”
- “He was my nemesis, and I didn’t want to fix him, I reminded myself.”
- “With pink lips and a sultry voice, she was a siren with a filthy mouth and I. Was. A. Goner.”
- “I call you Poodle because you call me Sweet Cheeks. I believe everything is fair in love and war.”
- When she said baby while she was trying to calm him down from his panic attack
- “I can tell you about the part where I broke her nose and choked her.” “Atta girl,” he praised out loud.”
- “Similar to how Lila was my favorite drug of choice, sweet and so fucking addictive.”
- “Lila was truly and honestly my…friend.”
- “I made him smile. I did it. And I’d continue to do so.”
- “We had each other – she got me and I got her.”
- “What we had… it was a kaleidoscope of colors.”
- “Maddox and I against the whole world. Partners in crime and best friends.”
- “He cracked his knuckles, his lips splitting into a deadly grin. “He fucked with one of ours.”
- “Maddox taught me how to enjoy life, how to let go of fear and the need for control and to just… live.”
- “she could rip me apart and put me back together, again and again”
- “I dare you to stay.” His lips touched mine again. “I dare you to give us a chance.”
- Their date in Paris, it’s cliche but always adorable
- “He pressed his warm lips on my bare shoulder, a soft kiss. “Sunset, the Eiffel Tower and dinner.”
- “You are my favorite adventure, Lila Garcia.”
- “Maddox Coulter, aka my best friend, aka my boyfriend, grinned. “I dare you to be my wife, Lila.”
- OMFG THEY HAVE FIVE KIDS
- Colton and Maddox dressed up as Santa and his Elf for the kids lol
- Maddox got his daughter a goat for Christmas
Dare To Love is the compilation of Truth & Dare duet series with the addition of Maddox & Lila's Christmas novella. In the main duet, we get to see the relationship of Maddox & Lila on how they were enemies who ended up becoming best friends and finally into something even more. Like seriously, I can't even describe the amount of love that I have for Maddox & Lila, but having the opportunity to see more of them after the duet series gave me the perfect closure for the couple.
First of all, I loved everything about this duet series. Just by reading them, we can slowly see the development of the main characters where they had to face many challenges in life in order to achieve the ending that they deserve. However, after reading the novella, it makes me feel so overwhelmed because it gives me the sense of emotion that I didn't expect at all. Everything about this book is just bittersweet and I appreciate how Lylah James was able to handle some realistic issues that usually happened after marriage. Not gonna lie, reading this book specifically the novella gave me a wake up call that you will always face multiple challenges throughout your life no matter what happens. Therefore, the most important thing is having someone to be by your side to fight together in overcoming any trials and tribulations in life.
On the other hand, Maddox is just wonderful and I couldn't help but fell in love with him all over again. I loved how he was always there for Lila where he continuously supporting her and assuring her whenever she was at her lowest. Whereas for Lila, she is extremely strong who will always try her best to handle the situation. Not only that, but we also get to see how great parents they truly are when it comes to their children. Like urgh, this couple is just perfect for me and they literally owned my entire heart and soul.
Overall, I think Lylah did an amazing job in delivering the entire story because everything was written very beautifully. I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I truly recommend everyone to give this book a read because it's absolutely worth it.
