"But I was most definitely a time traveler. I even knew the lingo. Quantum mechanics. Hyperspace. Flux capacitor. Hell. Yes."

Okay, so I'm not a giant fan of storylines like this (I mean, who is?), but it served a purpose. This one was kind of like taking a little break from reality and even though it seems as if we've taken a step backward in the storyline, I promise that by the end we will have leapt forward. I'm sure that makes no sense. No matter-it stays.

There are revelations in this book that rock the foundation of the story. I didn't know there could be more bombs! Charley's family/friends continue to be the best part of the story and the way it's building, I have no idea how it will end. So, cool!

This one has all the feels. I love this series and am starting to panic knowing it will eventually end. The audio narrator, Lorelei King, is excellent. She brings the stories to life.

The story itself was good but it just felt like a huge step back from where Charley was towards the end of the previous book.

Just a filler book. My main question is—- charley literally just gave birth so how was she not lactating or anything to hint to herself that her body gave birth??? Also the “twist” at the very end about reyes just has me confused as hell. I listened to it 3 times and still don’t understand. Plus the lore in this book continues to keep changing at the whim of the artist. The only part i liked was reyes and charley having a meet cute. But also, it’s just implausible that reyes is oh so beautiful that he is once again attracting hoards of people just so they can look at him??? Like it was bit justified in new mexico where he was kinda famous due to the wrongful conviction. But in sleepy hollow he literally is just a pretty face. Idk it’s just so unrealistic and annoying. Especially bc then i have hear even more about Charley’s inner monologue about how good looking reyes is. *big yawn*

I was a little wary at first when I started this book because the main character who is also the grim reaper, and private investigator, just became a mother and is married to the son of Satan, all of a sudden has amnesia.

Charley finds herself awaken in an alleyway in Sleepy Hollows New York with no recollection of who she is. She is given a job as a waitress and is trying to make ends meet with what little money she has and is struggling to figure out who she is. She seems to have a great support team and quickly makes friends who really seem to care about her.

I really enjoyed this book and how although Charley has amnesia she is still the same quirky, silly and caring Charley we all have come to love and adore and even memory loss wont stop her from what she was born to do.

5 hours later and I'm done and already in Charley-snark/Reyes-sexiness withdrawl. I want the tenth book now!!!!!

At the beginning of 2015, I decided to discover some really good Paranormal/Urban Fantasy series. Charley Davidson, though well known amongst bloggers that I follow, was something I’ve always felt like a series I would not be able to enjoy. But the increasing noise from others about the books could no longer be ignored. In March, I gave in and picked up the first book. It only took one book and the rest, as they say, is history.

*** Warning: Some spoilers up ahead ***

SpoilerTHE DISAPPEARING ACT OF CHARLEY DAVIDSON

The end of book 8 showed how Charley lost her marbles when she had to give up their daughter for hers and the world’s sake. She unleashed unimaginable sorrow with the choice they had to make. She literally vanished into the thin air, to Reyes’ heartbreaking woe. Ms. Jones, at least, made sure she gave us a glimpse of where Charley ended up. So you can only imagine how anxious I was for the 9th book.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NEW YORK

Meanwhile, Janey Doerr was found in a back alley without any memories and recollections of who she was. But with the small town spirit and the generosity of strangers, she was able to find a place to live and a job waitressing at a diner. In an honest-to-goodness Charley Davidson fashion, Janey was able to make friends left and right. There were Cookie and her husband, Bobert; the diner owner who let her get away with a lot of things; the handsome strangers who she seems to keep bumping into; and the few dead people who honed on her like a heat-seeking missile. Oh and there was that dead dog with the affinity to showers and a thirteen-year-old angel who propositions her any chance he gets. So maybe not remembering things about your life wasn’t so bad after all.

STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN

If you’re one of those people who have followed this series and have been feeling blasé about the last few instalments, you’re in for a treat! Reading book 9 is like starting anew. I especially enjoyed watching Janey and Reyes pussyfoot around each other. It’s like Ms. Jones gave us an alternate universe where Charley is newly discovering the hotness that is, Reyes. It is also fun to watch her discover her powers (mostly by accident) and meet all the dead people that sought her light. At the same time, I would’ve liked to see her react differently to the unusualness of meeting dead people. I thought Janey could’ve at least tried to act terrified at first because she wasn’t used to seeing them all her life.

IN RETROSPECT

This was a wonderful instalment that shows how long series should be done. Ms. Jones was able to freshen it up without veering away from the story arch she’s started. You will laugh, you will cry and in the Reyes-Dutch fashion, it will get you hot under the collar!

Ok so this series is progressing incredibly slooooooow.

Because of Charley's amnesia it was like we backtracked in terms of the overall plot.

Also, this series is notorious for having too many minor plots. If more time was spent on the big picture we'd be much farther along. As it is, it always seems like 2 steps forward, and one step back.

The Dirt On Ninth Grave was a wild ride that I absolutely adored. I'm annoyed with myself for taking so long to read it. I can't wait to see what happens next.
