Nice integration of cultural touchstones, common superhero tropes, and story about finding the power within yourself. This could be a great stepping stone for conversation with a middle grade reading audience on multiple levels.

This is definitely one of my top graphic novel picks for the year (maybe of all time tbh?)!! The writing and illustration are both so charming and beautiful. The story never falls into tired tropes and all the characters feel fully fleshed-out. It’s funny and honest and fun! A true delight to read!

Absolutely loved that this superhero comic showed the burden of having superpowers and being a teenager. Also, the fact that Lupe didn't look like a "typical" heroine (a skinny blonde). Compassion and empathy really is the greatest superpower for anybody.

In Quince, Lupe gets super powers on her 15th birthday. Her abuela helps her with them and explains she got hers at that time too. But, let her know it doesn’t last forever and the reason she got them to begin with, means there’s something coming, and she needs to train hard. Lupe quickly finds out having powers isn’t like the movies and she doesn’t always get to do what she wants.

This is a cute, pretty fast pace graphic novel. I’m glad I was able to enjoy it in one volume because I was enjoying the story so much. Lupe is a very lovable character and so cute. Her expressions were very relatable when dealing with things.

The art in this is also very colorful and bright, very cute!
