After reading the first story in the series, I immediately started this one, wanting to continue the hype. Absolutely adored watching the character development of the MMC, and also the side characters and their relationships. the found family in this story is one of my favourite aspects.
I did struggle with the first half, it was slower and I struggled to keep engaged but I think that was equally my own motivation as it was the book, but once I got half way through and the pace sped up, I raced to the end, needing to know how it was all going to end.
The cliffhanger at the end wasn't brutal, but it also just left me going whattttttt. Guess I'll start the next one!

Almost lost interest half way through. Had to really push through the last half to get the book read it was close to being DNF’d due to how chaotic the storyline had become with added characters that were becoming dry and lacklustre.
I wont be reaching for the next book anytime soon.

Honestly this book draggeddd for me, and I’m not entirely sure why. I feel like there was just a lot packed into it and some of it seemed to come out of nowhere. Gonna take a break before I read the third because I can’t spend 2.5 weeks fighting through a book again lol
Unfortunately, this was not the sequel I was wanting. There were a lot of good things about this book - we got so much more of Darien’s POV and since he’s my favorite character that’s all I really wanted, we got a Max POV which added some dimension to the world, and Loren has finally stopped being useless and needing everyone else to protect her all the time. But, the storyline was a bit repetitive of itself, and of the first book. The entire last 200 pages was the same thing happening over and over again. The execution was just not really up to par for the idea. I am still invested in this world, I’m hoping the writing improves as the next book comes out.
