4.5 stars. I do love these books but not quite 5 star for me as some parts I don’t have that feral need to pick it up like I do with others. I love Darien, he’s probably one of the most well fleshed out MMC I’ve read, he’s probably makes my heart do things when I read his perspective. It was great hearing more from Max and Dallas and learning more about the other Darkslayers. It did go on it places and I did scan read some of it just to get through to the meatier bits but the world building is top notch and the characters make it worth it.

4.25 stars for this book.
I felts at some points it was a bit slow throughout and that we were having the same conversations, however this is expected due to main FMC (loren) and MMC (Darien) trying to navigate their individual journey throughout this book.
It was heartwarming to see the fundamentals of the found family and how it expanded as the book went on with new additions from the last book and the introduction to new characters. Love love love that we got to see more of Mortifer and how much he cares for Darien

The ending has destroyed me.
AH THIS WAS SO GOOD !!! The character development from book 1 is unmatched, Lorens character especially grew with such grace and strength throughout this book, her emotional intelligence and willingness to protect everyone around her was so heart wrenching.
Darien freaking Cassel, this "i will find you in every lifetime" kind of love is just utterly soul destroying to read. He loves SO deeply and will sacrifice anything and everything for his family. The "i will crawl for you" part had me screaming, the fact he knew something was wrong and she physically couldn't tell him, was such amazing writing. I hate the no communication in relationships trope but this was a whole new board game, as they both wanted to and were dealing with grief, anxiety, addiction and love in such normal and healthy ways.
I'm an utter sucker for the hurt x comfort trope, and this was done in both books so well, to build tension and show how much both Loren and Darien were willing to do for eachother.
The house of devils may be one of my favourite found families.
Just their conversations are so real and funny they're such a joy to read
The entire book was such a rollercoaster, the last 200 pages were so fast paced I couldn't put it down.
The changes in POV is so well done, i just LOVE how this is written.
I cannot wait to read book 3, although after that ending i am so scared and have so many questions.
"I didn't know you could read my mind."
"We're on the same frequency now, baby."
"Do you want me on my knees? Do you want me to beg, is that it?
Because I will. I'll crawl for you."
He'd looked at her like she was extraordinary and beautiful, and made of all the things she knew she wasn't.
And he had protected her. He'd done such a great job of it, too.
Now it was her turn to protect him.
You are the exception to every one of my rules.
