Just as thrilling at the first! Please tell me there are more to come?

After failing to fulfill her purpose, Clara finds her world turned upside down and doesn't know what’s going to happen next. She begins having visions in the form of dreams, only to realize that someone close to her is going to die.

This was a perfect follow up to Unearthly. You learn a lot more about the differences between White Wings and Black Wings. There is also a huge surprise. I know I wasn’t expecting it. This novel was extremely emotional, and had me in tears by the time I finished it. I haven’t had a book move me in such a long time. I even woke up the other half to tell him how great this book was, and that he should pick up reading as a hobby. To that, he said don’t think so and went back to sleep. :P I highly recommend this series. I rated it 4/5 because I think at times Clara is extremely self-centered, and that kind of annoyed me.

I absolutely am enthralled with this series. I laughed, cried & became emotionally attached to the characters. Going to be a long wait for the next book!

“Our purpose on this earth is not one single event, an accomplishment we can check off a list. There is no test. No passing or failing. There's only us, each moment shaping who we are, into what we will become.”

I loved this book, I enjoyed it much more than the first one, and although at first I was somewhat heavy, on the other hand its content is very interesting.

And even though I have many questions, I think it answered a few at this time
I remember the first book although it was a beautiful and light reading , I didn't feel shocked me at any time, in this case I felt caught in an opportunity, that has cast myself even more hooked with the plot. At the same time initially was somewhat predictable, the theme of the visions that Clara had, well I personally could guess where the plot was when she took a completely different path before actually discovering the truth, which hasn't been a surprise .
But then Clara's dad shows up and is coolest thing of this book, I'm super excited to see what gonna to happen in the next.

I fell in love with Christian in this book, is so noble and interesting, the truth is that I think I've already chosen my side in this love triangle. I don't know how this continues, but he is an excellent character. His scenes with Clara are beautiful !.

“I'll never forget the way he tastes. It's not anything I can describe, a little sweet and a whole lot of spice, and it feels, in that moment, absolutely right.”

I have to confess that I've dropped a tear with some scenes with Clara and her mother , it was super sentimental and has touched my heart. I can not wait to see how Clara faced the world now, she will face her destiny, finally and place which occupied each character at the end. I'm excited for the last book :).

“There's nothing more inspiring than the complexity and beauty of the human heart.”

P.D: If it took me a while to read it, I want to clarify, that was not because the book is heavy at all, because for me these books are very quick to read, it's just that I haven't had much time to read :(

This series is a very easy read compared to most YA novels that have kind of complicated storylines. It isn't my favourite series, but it is a solid read with interesting characters and ANGELS.

This book continues the story of Clara, struggling with her purpose and her relationships. Despite the angelic elements to the story, it stands out as real as a mailbox in the noonday sun. Clara struggles with getting grounded for fooling around with her boyfriend, not being able to understand her moody and hormonal younger brother, having spats with her friends and her mom and having trouble finding her place and her path in life. These are things we all faced, especially as teenagers, but the author makes them somehow far more interesting by capturing the immediacy, the urgency of the issues that we all felt when they were consuming our own lives. Without spoilers, the process of Clara losing someone she loves was very believable- Ms. Hand must have lost someone close to her to be able to write with such clarity. It was partially the writing and partially knowing that experience must have informed the writing, that brought me to tears during this part.

The conflict of Clara's emotions between Christian and Tucker is realistic, though I don't like the way she handles herself in response to the conflict. And I felt like for the second half of the book she ignored Tucker, who is a solidly great character (finally, a YA hero who has a personality instead of just charisma and hotness), and didn't really give him a chance. The choice she made at the end was irritating and not totally supported by what had happened in the story up until then.

Of course, I can't complain too much because you have to be dissatisfied with the ending to the second book of a trilogy. Otherwise you wouldn't keep reading. And it sounds like Tucker missed the roll call for showing up in the third book, but I'm hoping that he makes his way in anyway, because Christian (all hotness and charisma, no character) could use the competition.

this was even better than the first book. So much new information, i loved the whole "triplare" thing and meeting Clara's dad and right now im just really really excited for the third and last book in this series.

Even if you love someone so much, sometimes you have to let it go. So you deserve someone better. Someone enough for you. And I learned it from Tucker's side. Because you know there's limit between love and destiny. :""

If you thought Unearthly was good, Hallowed is a thousand times better.
And if you didn't....well, refrain from anymore reading of this humble review and go to B&N, and give it another try!

Back to the book.

Clara Gardner's faced the fire. She's completed her purpose. Heaven has brought it's wrath upon her no-longer-carrot-colored-rather-strawberry-blonder head, and she can just get on with her life....right?

Nope, of course not! As fate would have it (or perhaps the big guy up there), apparently purposes can be  for life . Clara the Angel-blood is not done being the Angel-blood!

And us readers go yay, because that means we get more Unearthly books ^_^

Now, call me unobservant, call me unattentive, call me totally oblivious, or call me stupid (no, actually, please don't do the last one)...but I did not see the major plot twist before it came and hit me smackdab on the head? And then I was blearily like..."Wait....did that actually happen?"

Spoiler CLARA'S MOM IS GOING TO DIE? YOU MEAN TO SAY, Tucker, the guy that EVERYONE thinks'll die, actually isn't? So, instead of having to deal with a little fangirl heartache, us readers have to feel the same shock and sorrow and despair that Clara goes through as she loses her MOM?

Oh, Cynthia Hand did not just go there.

But SHE DID! It happens!

An incredibly frustrating and maybe even agonizing part that all Angel-bloods have in their lives is their power to see the future. And often times, it's a painful, maybe even shocking future, that they have to involve themselves in,  but not necessarily prevent .

Or else, you know, heaven's fury and fire and stuff like that. Bad.

So Clara spends the entire novel knowing, and dreading the fact that someone she loves is going to die.

And then Hand drops the bomb on us.

Oh, haha, that was punny, Hand...a hand...dropping bomb...I'll stop now.

But the other plot twist was entirely too predictable. Or maybe it was just because Hand had just crushed our and Clara's souls, and then she tries to spring one on us a second time and we're like, "Oh no, girl, just no."

Spoiler Clara's dad is an angel. A full fledged, Heaven's messenger, kind of angel. Which makes her and her brother super duper powerful.

Well, good for her.

And then Hand desperately attempts another surprise attack, and it fails even more.

Spoiler Christian is also this super powerful 3/4 angel so him and Clara are MEANT to be together

There! Cynthia Hand has jammed in the final puzzle piece! It fits!

It fits a little too perfectly, if you get what I'm saying.

But despite that, this novel is just so addicting. You think you've read it before, angel and human love each other, but angel and human really can't be together, so angel and angel should end up together blah blah blah. But then Hand throws in a curveball, that leaves readers dumbfoundedly stunned and blinking.

And I absolutely adore how Hand always hints at those tried-and-true typical PNRs, and how they fail where she doesn't. Clara is the kind of girl who knows those Bellas, and never understood them. She never wanted this love-triangle, and thinks it's kind of stupid.

Aha! Now ain't that a slap in the face for those Team So-and-So Books!

There are other great things about Hallowed, but I just felt it was necessary to point out a few of them. The characters are still as loveable as ever, and the action is still as action-y.

I know that's not a word.

Just read the books, you won't be disappointed.

Boundless, I'm coming for you!

Do not read if you haven’t read Unearthly

I loved this sequel to Unearthly! It completely exceeded my expectations. Thankfully, the book was so different from many paranormal YA second books, which are often some sort of filler before the end. There was a lot of growth that happened here, and we learned a great deal more about Clara and her world, plus we got to know Christian better. The angel lore in these books is rich and beautifully explained. I enjoyed watching Clara grow up throughout the story - even though during the process, she endured some pretty heartbreaking experiences. Tucker was just as sweet; however, I really want to gush about how much I fell in love with Christian in this book. I’ll hold myself back a bit, but
SpoilerI will say that I was thrilled with the direction of the story
. Several themes run through this series, including free will vs. destiny (predestination), which I discuss more at length below. I really liked how the author explored these concepts through Clara’s experiences.

As much as we learn in Hallowed, there is so much more story to go. It makes me excited for the third book. I’m eager to learn more about Angela, Jeffrey and Clara, Christian and Tucker. I’m sure we’ll be seeing Samjeeza again. And I hope we see more of
SpoilerClara’s mom and dad. Her dad showing up as an angel was a great surprise
.

More specific discussions and SPOILERS below>>>>>

Free Will vs. Destiny (Predestination)
SpoilerThe book’s inherent discussion of free will vs. destiny/purpose was fascinating and gave the story a rich depth. Watching Hallowed unfold and Clara struggle with what she wants/has chosen vs. what she’s supposed to do (her purpose) made me think a great deal about whether our destiny is something created because it’s the best for us, or whether it limits us. I think the Tucker or Christian debate is a tangible representation of that. Clara has chosen to love Tucker, but she’s being told that Christian is her purpose and future. She resents being told who to love and how to live. But then she starts to know and fall for Christian and she wonders if maybe she is better/stronger with him. And maybe loving him wouldn’t be so bad after all. Maybe it would be the best thing to happen to her. I just hope that we get to see where this discussion takes us in the third book.

The Love Triangle
SpoilerEven the love triangle feels different in this book. I love that Clara fell in love with Tucker in Unearthly. He was perfect for her at the time, and it was very true to life. In so many of these YA books, the heroine’s first love is the forever kind, and though first love is always important and memorable, it so rarely where a person lands in the end. I like that in this story, it seems like that is where the story is going. Christian isn’t Clara’s first love, but is the one who is better for her in the end. Now I don’t know this for sure, but I’m hoping that the third book continues off the beaten path of the typical paranormal romance and allows Christian and Clara to fall in love and discover what their potential is together. Even she acknowledges that he makes her stronger, and they definitely have a bond that Tucker can’t touch.

My preference for Clara and Christian, has nothing to do with a preference for Christian over Tucker. They beauty of this story is that they’re both great guys. But I think that Christian has been made for Clara and together they are amazing. Tucker is a normal (albeit HOT) guy, he can’t protect Clara or go where she needs to go to complete her purpose. He can’t even handle being around her when she is in glory, and he will age in a completely different way. He also wants to stay in Jackson Hole. He deserves a human girl that he can protect and love and grow old with. It is a heartbreakingly poignant moment when Clara begins to see and realize this about him. The process of her letting go of Tucker is sad but beautifully done. Christian is a match for Clara, and I hope that we get a chance to see what Clara and he can accomplish together.
