I will admit that I was a little hesitant of reading this book. Mainly because of the Descendants movie(which I have yet to see, but I am hoping to fix very very soon, possibly by tonight even), not that I had heard it was bad but because I haven't been a fan of the most recent DCOMs. But I am so glad I decided to pick this up, I absolutely loved it! When I wasn't reading this I was think about reading this, it was just so much fun. I had a blast while reading it, the story was super fast paced and exiting, there was never a dull moment. I loved how the back story t all the villains was the same as with the Disney movies. Don't get me wrong I love the original stories, but like with most people I grew up with Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid and enjoyed seeing my childhood movies transferred to a retelling like this.

I loved all of the characters and I enjoyed how there weren't just one-dimensional, there seemed to be many different layers to each of them. I also liked how they weren't carbon copies of their parents. They had their own minds and way of thinking, even with such an evil family history. My all time favorite character would have to be Carlos though, from the beginning I just absolutely loved him! The world was supper fun and I like how we had a couple chapters with Ben's POV. Gave us an incite into whats to come(especially with the movie), and a different perspective than what you would imagine coming from people of Auradon.

My biggest complaint is that I wish I knew who the children other parent is. None of the characters we follow have both parents, they really only have their "famous villain" parent around. Typically the other parent, who is long long gone, is described of as week and not worth anyone's times, and usually sparks thoughts of hatred and angry outburst from the remaining parent. But throughout the entire book I was curious as to who they are. The villains have been trapped on the island for 20 years, well their children are at most 16. Does that mean the other parent is a villain? or someone else entirely? I'm not sure but hopefully this question will be answered later on, I sure hope so.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the second one. But first I now need to go watch a movie I've been putting off for a year now, wish me luck!

Update: I just watched the Descendants movie and it was awesome! I absolutely loved it! Now not only do I need to read the second book but I now need to run to target and buy the movie. It was so good, much better than I was expecting.

This was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. There are a lot of descriptions and different words, (but not too many) which I liked. The writing was more natural than some other middle-grade books had.
Of course, it was a product of Disney, so it had a very American perspective. Also, the fairy tales are only those from Disney and none else, so it doesn't really make sense that those would be the ruling ones if there were a world with all fairy tales in it.

Too long of words and too old for me but still a good book.

Not engaging at all, maybe it's because it's out of my age range but I honestly don't think that's it.

3.5 stars for this one. Everything I love about Disney came together in this book. It was fun to read about the villain's children and their journey of getting to know themselves. This book was written in very clear and simple language and Im sure it is even a childrens book, but that doesnt spoil the fun! I think this book is a very fun read for everyone who loves the Disney movies and likes to see many characters come together in one story.

I’ve never read a book where the movie adaptation is actually a part of the overall story like this. It’s interesting.
This middle grade book had no right to be as cool as it was though
