I wish I was allowed to issue half stars because I'd have given this a 2 1/2. I knew this book was aimed at a younger audience but I LOVE fairy tales, and the fact that this book centered on the villains of those tales and their children intrigued me. The content was okay and I enjoyed the back stories for all of the children of the villains, but overall it was mediocre. I think most of the problem was that I hated the narrator. This was an audio book and I could not stand the narrator's voice. That said, I may give books 2 and 3 a chance as I want to see what happens next. All in all I am glad I read it. My hopes were very high so the rating reflects my disappointment as it didn't live up to my expectations. I would not recommend this book in audio form...the narrator in my opinion was awful.

I definitely enjoyed this read. I can't wait to see descendants on Disney channel! My full review to come!

as a children/middle grade book it is pretty good. I do like the writing style, makes it really easy to read. there are some things that I don't get about this book and felt like something was missing, but it is a series so I'm hoping those things will be explain in the next book, which I don't know if I'm going to read to be honest. But yeah, this is definitely a children's book so keep that in mind.

A fun read in between some series i was reading. I like the humor in it and it's nice to get a story from an villain's point of view. A bit predictable but i can live with that.

Cute. Did not finish

This book didn't really go anywhere. I didn't see the point of having both the 'good island' and the 'bad island' since they didn't ever cross or meet. I was thinking that was where the book was going and it didn't.... A strangely morose tale of the kids of the Disney movie villains and how they have to live in squalor and filth, eating leftover and moldy food. They are slaves to their parents obsessions and are also abused by them. They are not loved and to me that is sad. Having villains be the secondary part of the story and not even having them be likable in any form is a strange experience.

What happens after happily ever after when you lost? An interesting concept but presented in such a strange way. I can't tell if it's the fact that this had to be a Disney backed Disney book that would become a Disney show or what. It was too dark in parts, and at the same time not dark enough, it was odd how the book fluctuated between the two. I'm interested in reading the next book, but I'm going to be getting it from the Library. For girls and boys fifth grade on up who enjoy mixed up fairy tales, or books that are from the perspective of not just the hero.

I realize this is meant for tweens and they will probably like it. I will say that at several points reading this, I had to double check to really make sure it wasn't self published fan fic.

Also Disney, you already did this one, it's called Sky High and it was great. Just cheesy enough. The Descendants upcoming TV movie is more of a Halloweentown IV variety, but somehow worse.

I am most certainly not the target demographic for this book but I immensely enjoyed reading it.

It's exactly the kind of content I would have devoured when I was a young teen, and I am sort of sorry I didn't have this series when I was a kid. My mind would've imploded.

The outfit descriptions made me laugh (and I mean this in a very positive way). The details!!

All in all, good story.

3.5 stars

Set as the background against the new Disney movie Descendants, I thought it decent, although rather simple. Still, this is aimed at younger kids, which I'm pretty sure will enjoy. :)
