I struggled to complete this book and only completed it because I must complete a series.
Putting aside the unrelenting excuses for pedophilia and constant apologizing for man’s “curse” of uncontrollable lust, the writing was subpar, the plot lagged, and the conclusion was painfully obvious. For a book with a predictable ending the journey must be intriguing yet Piers disappoints here too.

Piers suffers writing three main characters: female, black, and young. He attempts all three in one of the main characters of the book.

The constant interruptions from the plot with sexual comments from the 15y/o “black whore”, aside from offensive, plain distracting and does not add to the character or the story.

The entire book Piers continuously tries to convince his readers that sex between underage girls and 50 year old men is okay with weak yet persistent arguments.

As for the less offensive parts of the book, there was some incongruity with the other Incarnations, the plot seems to be focused on the Niobe family as all Incarnations are related to her and her family in some way which is unbelievable, and I wish there was more POV from the Incarnation of Good’s perspective.

LOVED this series, but they are hard to find to re-read! :-(
slow-paced

I don't remember much about this book except that it was a major let down after for love of evil. It really felt like a big nothing burger of an ending which I thought it was at the time bc the 8th book had not come out yet and wouldn't for almost a decade.

This was a fascinating end to the series, but most of that was in the last 15% of the book as everything wrapped up. For most of the book I was very frustrated as this was the most anti-male sexist book I've ever read! At every turn it portrayed men as helpless slaves to their sex drive at best. The earlier installments had sex and promiscuity, but nothing like this, and never with the overtone of some kind of evil drive all men have that can't help but make them into rapists at the slightest provocation. Ruined the book for me. I kinda wish I'd stopped with For Love of Evil as it was one of the best of the series and didn't have any of the crap that I hate about And Eternity.

This novel is entertaining, and an excellent exploration of the world Anthony developed in the 6 previous. I would nearly have given it 5 stars if not for two factors. 1) the depiction of "male lust" throughout. It is presented again and again that male lust is a terrible force that takes an enormous amount of control to keep in check. Men are practically lauded for *not being rapists*.

And the second factor:
a good portion of this novel is an argument for the acceptability of relationships between adult men and teen girls. If Vita had even been of a legal age this novel might not suffer as it does. Instead Anthony goes to great lengths as to convince the audience of the legitimacy of such an affair.

While I do find Anthony's philosophical ideas compelling, he, again and again, shoots himself in the foot with his gross beliefs about women, girls, and worst of all, men. (In that they should be celebrated for not being rapists and cannot be blamed for things they do in the pursuit of the satisfaction of their lust).

Builds up to a very nice ending. Quite a bit of foreshadowing resulting in a climactic finish.

I really loved this book-was not expecting who they voted into office but it was a great choice!

great story
