I finished this simply for the love of Jules Verne (because Around the World in 80 Days & Journey to the Center of the Earth are adventure masterpieces imo 👌🏼) but good lawwwwd, this was unfortunately such a snoozefest.

oh it's so good. sure it's dated at points and the fish listing slows the pace (which is so intentional and effective!!!) but most of it holds up. Verne's vision of the science of the future is so intricate and I wish more of it was true and came to pass. I also wish there was a secret tunnel under the Suez and an entire sunken city in Atlantis, but alas. His descriptions of the Nautilus and all of her wonders are deeply engaging, much like her captain. When will a genius brooding sea captain sweep ME away and show me the wonders of the ocean deep, I ask you. and he can play the organ. Captain Nemo if you're still out there and single.....

Much slower read than I was expecting; endless descriptive pages of creatures in the ocean. I think this would be better for children who aren’t aware of science because reading it with a science background also was a struggle - I knew when things weren’t correct or wouldn’t work based on today’s science knowledge and I couldn’t suspend that.

20000 Meilen unter den Meeren von Jules Verne

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5*)

A classic and staple of science fiction! Must read!! Really liked it even though I read it much later after reading a lot of more advanced science fiction books!
