¡Hola Lectores!

This book is honestly so great, it felt like a ride the whole series. Approaches dark topics in a fantastical yet believable setting, really interesting stuff.

Loved this so much!!

good ideas badly executed in my opinion

Quick and light start to a new series

FIRST OF ALL this book did a good job of keeping the reader engaged, i was in a reading slump and somehow this managed to keep my attention which is why i would have given it 3 stars, in fact up until half way this novel exceeded my expectations, it was interesting and i actually cared about the main character. i also thought the relationship between violet and the duchess was one of the most interesting part of the novel.

NOW ONTO WHAT I DIDNT LIKE: the romance. the romance in this novel was completely unecessary as well as being so rushed that it became instalove. this made it boring and i found myself skipping the scenes between violet and the love interest, in my opinion it frustrated me and i think this novel would have fared a lot better without the romance.

overall this book is 2.5 stars,

it probably would have been more but there were little bits here and there which put me off, i'll probably still be interested in reading its sequel which tells you a lot about how interesting it is.

The Jewel is one of these Ya dystopian novels that have nothing going on for them, being filled with a bland romance that takes up way too much time and with too many bad and tired cliches. Add to that the unoriginal idea - which is lifted straight out of The Handmaid's Tale - and you get this mediocre book.
