I love the peter pan story and enjoyed the adaption very much. But the last 20% didn't really do it for me. Somehow, this felt like the author was desperately trying to find a resolution to the mess and kill off everyone that wasn't needed for a happy end. So I'll have to give three stars.

A really good book, I loved the characters and didn’t see the ending coming. There was a few twists in the end and I could not put the book down. All the characters in the book were not what I expected, I either really liked them or disliked them. It was nice seeing Hook’s and Wendy’s point of view, and the book didn’t feel rushed or slow. Excited to read the second book to this series.

I'm not gonna lie, I almost DNF'ed this one... why did I stick around?? Solely to see if Wendy lived and if she'd smarten up (Lemme save you the trouble - yes, she lived; no, she didn't smarten up nearly as much as she should've).
To be fair, the book started to get better... (then fell off the rails again, before getting back on... just to fall off again). When it was on track, the writing really seemed to flow, and I felt I could see/understand the story/the various characters.
There is definitely potential here (especially with Smee's plot twist), which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. However, the "on track" sections didn't redeem itself enough to compensate for the times I felt the writing was choppy, the characters falling flat, and especially not for how the book started or ended.
Will I read the others in this series?? Not sure yet... I've heard the others are much better, but unfortunately, I think I need a bit of space after this one before I give them a try.

Dark romance isn't usually a genre I gravitate towards, but I've heard good things about this one and my book club was reading it. About what I expected from the genre, though I do wish the trigger warnings had been slightly more detailed. "Gleeful violence" and "torture" aren't really descriptive enough for one scene late in the book where Hook has starving rats put on a man's stomach to eat him alive . I enjoyed the book for what it was and won't be seeking out any more dark romances anytime soon.
