I thought this was a great book and a great ending to the series. Was it the best book I’ve ever read? No, but do I feel the need to sh*t on it in my review? Also no. I was reading through some of the other reviews, and it always amazes me at what pisses people off. To the point they come across as nearly unhinged in their reviews. It’s not that serious.
Also, I feel like if you’re a “life long fan” then you would already know which way King leans politically. So it really shouldn’t be a shocker that his political views find their way into his books. If you’re going to burn all his books (like one reviewer stated) I’ll be happy to take them off your hands.
Anyway, I loved the series.

This was definitely the best book in this series. Although I bought Gwendy's Magic Feather when it was published, I really didn't have much desire to read it especially since King did not help in writing that one. Even with the publication of this book in Feb, I only got around to buying it a few days ago. After seeing the good reviews for it and hearing that there are strong ties to the Dark Tower series in this book, I decided to read both GMF and this one. All in all, I'm glad I did. They are both fast reads and although the ending of GMF was a tad underwhelming, it was still enjoyable. I was rather happy with the ending of this book. If you're on the fence about this series I say to just go for it. All three books will likely take you no more than two weeks to get through. This book has also made me want to take another journey into the DT universe.

Book review of Gwendy’s Final Task by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar. 3 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
How amazing is it to finish a trilogy. This last book was super amazing and I feel like it wrapped up what needed to be wrapped up. Enough to finish and cycle out the plot points and make sure it has no holes.
“People don’t need a button box to do horrible things. There’s plenty of evil Rucker’s in the human spirit.”
All in all this novel was a good representation of how we are as a society. It wrapped up the fact that there is evil in this world, but there are also good in it too.
“People are turning away from women’s rights, from science, from the very notion of equality. They’re turning away from truth.”
Far and away the best of the Gwendy series, Gwendy’s final task is a good story that relies heavily on Stephen King’s shared universe. The first book in the series was fun but felt bare, especially as a stand alone novella, while Chizmar’s solo sequel only treaded water. In this novel the two authors come together again and give their best effort to making Gwendy’s journey as impactful as it can be. There were always allusions to King’s shared universe in this series (its setting in Castle Rock and the character named Richard Farris most notably), but in Gwendy’s final task there are many references to the evil in the town of Derry and the Clown from IT. Interestingly these events take place chronologically after Pennywise is killed in IT. Could the references the Derry townsfolk make to the evil clown be tall-tales that endure or is Pennywise really back in Derry wreaking havoc? Could there be an IT sequel in the works?? Speculation aside, there are also tons of references to the events that take place in King’s Dark Tower series. This book can certainly be enjoyed without knowledge of IT but I think enjoyment would certainly be lessened for those that haven’t read the Dark Tower. It is interesting for fans how King and Chizmar weave all this together into a story that still manages to stand alone well. There are some questions that linger including who created the button box and who is Richard Farris if not Randall Flagg? Aside from some unanswered questions Gwendy’s button box is the best of the series and brings fans back to King’s Multiverse.
